PUPPP

hello! I am 40w 3d and getting frustrated... Just really ready to meet this little character! One of the main reasons I'm so anxious to meet this little bean, is that I have been dealing with this horribly itchy generalized rash all over my body. After consulting with my MD, it's been diagnosed as this puritic rash associated with pregnancy... Wonderful. Just wondering if any of you have also been presented with this annoyance and in search of some good products to alleviate the itching. I'll be purchasing my 3rd tube of Benadryl cream today... Please let me know of anything that has worked for you!
Sincerely, Round & Itchy Momma-To-Be

Re: PUPPP

  • I had it earlier on in my pregnancy and it cleared up when I stopped using a variety if creams/lotions and only used almond oil twice a day. I also made some dietary modifications, more probiotics and raw carrots. If you google pupps treatment you will find a lot of options - pine tar soap is one that I never tried, but many people swear by. I hope it gets better!

  • I had it during my last pregnacy for about six weeks. I live in Ontario so I'm not sure if you can find the same product but maybe something similar? Below is a picture of the bottle...I would spray it on anytime I got itchy and then let it dry before putting my shirt down otherwise the dampness continues to irritate. It was a miracle worker for me and the only thing that allowed me to sleep!
  • I got it with my first pregnancy. didn't get it until about 40 weeks. Delivered at 40+5 naturally. But the rash hung around until about six weeks postpartum, so what they say about delivering makes the rash go away is utter BS.
I hope I don't get it this time. It certainly is terrible and nothing anyone needs to be dealing with with a newborn.
Pregnancy safe antihistamines, pine tar soap, calamine lotion.
Good luck. I hope it clears up very quickly for you!!
  • Not sure if this helps but you should be happy that it's PUPPP and not shingles, which I found out I have today. They thought it was PUPPP but it just developed blisters so is now confirmed shingles. Would much rather have PUPPP versus this idiotic thing that now could harm the baby :(
  • I had it with my first, my doctor told me to use aveeno oatmeal bath stuff and or try dove. Then after that before bed id lather up with gold bond lotion. Seem to help for most of the night .

I found out about 3 months ago I had shingles as well, I was quickly put on some medication and given lotion to help. It isn't harmful for the baby though, as long as u don't touch the newborn to ur rash site while not being on the medication of course. Once you start the meds though your no longer contagious. It sucks, definitely, it can hurt bad too, I still have the residual stabbing pain in my chest (where I had my rash) but I was told by the dermatologist and the OB it's not harmful to the baby. So don't stress that, stress is part of y u got shingles in the first place, unfortunately.

As to the OP, my girlfriend ended up with PUPPS her last month and it lasted about a month postpartum, she said it's awful but she used a soothing oatmeal lotion and body wash n took cool showers and it helped a ton. Sorry your dealing with that! GL :-/
  • Seriously just woke up with a rash this morning for the first time:(.. But I rubbed some emu oil on it and it disapeared. Good to go now! :D
  • Was diagnosed myself the week before I gave birth. Cream didn't help much. Doctor recommended oatmeal baths, but I never had a chance to try one because my water broke. Sorry not to be of more help. The good news is it goes away almost immediately after birth. But then the stretch marks still itch a little. I've been using Palmers lotion cocoa butter stuff and it helps me.
  • I used a cream of Benedryl every day. That was the only relief I got. I'm sorry you ended up getting those. They super suck.
