I don't mess with them. I'll put mittens on LO so they don't scratch themselves instead.

  • I bite them while he nurses. It works.

  • I use clippers. DD needs to be pretty zonked out to get this accomplished and filing takes to long!

  • I use nail clippers for the long ones and then file them to be rounded.
  • I've been using the file since Day 1 and decided to get brave with the clippers a couple of days ago...

    Did NOT go well

I was on the last damn finger and wouldn't you know I got her with the stupid clippers
    Son of a...!!!

Not sure who cried longer: me or LO

  • I used to use nail clippers while she napped, now she lets me do it while she's awake.

SS - I have my sister do it when she visits while they nap or nurse! I still haven't worked up the courage to clip them my self yet!

  • The nurses at the hospital told us to use a file, but it didn't help at all. They were so soft and DD hated it! I tried it for several weeks but then tried using her baby nail clippers a few weeks ago. It works so much better! Then sometimes they just peel off. I have to wait until she's really drowsy or asleep to do it. Speaking of which, I really need to clip them again. Even though it has gone well so far, it still makes me nervous!

  • Clippers. And I have accidentally gotten him once or twice and it was so sad.
  • I peel them while she nurses

  • Those trimming while nursing...you're doing it all or help from DH? I can't fathom feeding squirmy baby and cutting her nails at the same time

At first, DD's nails were too soft to file easily and the baby emery boards aren't great. I use my glass nail file now and it works really well.
  • DH always does it, and I'm pretty sure he files them.

We filed at first, then we swaddled her with her hands sticking out and cut them. It was genius.

    That IS genius.

  • I clipped her little fingers one too many times, I was being ridiculous crying like a mad woman. My husband was deployed and I was at my parents and she ran in and was like, is everyone okay? Haha I'm lame.

Anyway I voted SS because I clip a corner and then peel the nail, works for us!

  • SS - I find sharp nail scissors work better than clippers.

This! I feel 100% more comfortable with the scissors
  • I have clippers with a light at the end. Everyone needs these now! I never have any problem

  • My clippers have a magnifying glass but I don't use it.
I'm also in the clip-while-they-sleep camp
