So LO had an enlarged kidney on my 35 week ultrasound and the doc recommended her for a VCUG test to check for urine reflux. The test involves an ultrasound of the kidneys and a catheter test where they will insert a catheter into her bladder, fill it with a contrast material/dye and allow her to urinate the liquid out so they can check for any reflux of liquid back up to the kidneys. I recognize the importance of this test but it's really invasive...I worry about her discomfort and also the effects of the dye (I know someone personally who had a bad reaction to dye injected into her veins...I know this is a different case but still makes me nervous), especially since she's only 1 month old and we don't know if she has any allergies yet. Does anyone have any experience with this? Her appointment is on Wednesday. She hasn't had any uti or anything so I'm having a hard time seeing the need for this test right now, even though I know that precautions are important...help :-(

Thanks ladies. Makes me feel better, especially insight from a grown person with childhood experience. It will be hard but I do think it's the best for her. I'll keep you posted...
