TTC After a Loss

Buying CBFM sticks prior to a medicated cycle/Endo Biopsy question

These are such easy questions, I hesitate to post, but...

1. Is it worth spending money on the CBFM sticks (expensive) prior to a medicated cycle? Don't the meds create a formulaic cycle where you would be ovulating at a set time? Do you even use OPK sticks at all for this stuff? (I do not/can't temp due to sleep issues).

2. For those who have had an endometrial biopsy, did your cycle get messed up? I had an early very heavy period that lasted close to 7 days afterwards (period was light after last MC with DNC), then had 7-8 days off, then started a light period. I was going to wait to ask my doc if that meant something, but 1.5 weeks away seems long right now. Does it matter if you have recently become irregular if you are going into doing these medicated cycles?

Thanks for all your hard earned wisdom here! and Happy New Year! Go 2015!

  • I'm a CBFM user and I would not use the monitor during a medicated cycle. The meds could throw off the results and it will just make you tear your hair out. Plus, as you said, they are expensive!

I agree with this. I just re-read the instructions today (I had to reset mine) and it says the results can be skewed if you're taking medication, etc. I don't think it's worth the money or the possible frustration!

I dont remember any differences in my cycle after the biopsy

For all 3 follistim cycles, I did not use opks (that's what monitoring is for, let them worry about it)
However, when I did 2 cycles with oral meds,my RE didn't check estrogen levels and required that I take opks to catch a surge. I HATED it. I realized that my opks were technically expired and didn't even care at that point :))

Eta: the meds don't necessarily cause O at a certain time, but using a trigger shot once the follicles are mature will then cause O within a predictable time frame

All RPL and IF testing with multiple REs = normal

    5 IUIs = BFN

  • My CBFM is totally inaccurate on medicated cycles. I'm on Clomid then Novarel trigger then IUI. I get high readings basically from the moment I stop Clomid as it increases estrogen. Now that I trigger OPKs aren't really helpful either BC the idea is to trigger before my natural surge. For my first two clomid TI cycles I didn't trigger and OPKs accurately predicted O.

  • Ok. thanks everyone! Sounds like it's not worth the self-monitoring.

And my periods being weird after the endo is not common! Will have to check with doc.
