How am I going to fit a booster seat and two infant car seats in the back of my ford edge?

Any car seat recommendations? I haven't had my car long and can't afford to get a bigger one. How and is it possible to fit a booster seat and two infant car seats?

  • Only the one row of three. So I have to have three in a row together. We haven't bought my daughters booster seat yet. But it won't be one with a harness so she will need to be on the side and not the middle. The infant seat we have now is te graco click connect 40 and a few months after this baby is born she will be moved to a convertible car seat. So I'm lost as to what infant seat to get along with what convertible seat and who goes in the middle. Lol.
  • If you will be needing to buy another convertible and an infant seat I would go with the diono. Then I would go to babies r us and try out different infant seats in the back with the other 2 seats already in there -to see what would fit. I think the maxi cosi has a slim profile.

  • I'm confused, isn't the Ford Edge pretty roomy?...

We'll be dealing with 2 convertibles and 1 infant seat when this baby arrives. We're hoping to fit 3 across in a Mazda CX-9. I've looked into this quite a bit already, and it seems that the way to make it work is to put a Diono Radian in the middle. Dionos are some of the narrowest car seats out there. It's possible to fit 3 Dionos across almost any back seat from what I understand.

Our plan is a Diono Radian for 1 toddler, our current Britax Marathon for the other (or if that won't fit, another Diono Radian) and the new baby in a Chicco Key Fit.

Does the Ford Edge have 2 rows of seating or 3?

From an Edge owner, it has one back seat with three spots. I have personally had two Chicco type boosters and an adult sitting in the middle and room was efficient :) Hope that helps!
  • Look up the facebook group Car Seats for the Littles on facebook. You can post your children's ages, weights, heights, car type, etc... and they can give you recommendations from certified car seat techs. You can also look into a car seat vest instead of a booster to save room (https://www.amazon.com/Safe-Traffic-System-Travel-Booster/dp/B00KBWZM3C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1420226046&sr=8-1&keywords=car+seat+safety+vest). These are safe and legal in the US provided your child is mature enough and meets requirements (you can ask about them on the same site for confirmation).

FWIW I have a Diono Radian r120 for my daughter (who is 2), and we have been very happy with it. It is a very slim seat but takes up a lot of room front to back when rear-facing so that can be difficult in some cars - we can only do it in the middle. We still have my daughter rear-facing in it, but when we first got it she was still in an infant seat, and we used it forward-facing for my 4 year old neice behind the driver's seat and my daughter in her infant graco bucket seat in the middle, and they both fit just fine (with the passenger side seat still wide open), and I have a little Chevy Cobalt.

Seriously though, the Car Seats for the Littles facebook group is amazing. you can even post install pictures and pictures of your kids in their seats to make sure they are in there safely.
  • I second going to Car Seats for the Littles. They will be able to help you figure out the best combination for your kids and car. GL.
