What are you reading to your LO?

I searched for this and nothing came up. I am curious, what is everyone reading to their LO? Children's stories, or something more suited to your owns tastes?

I am reading Pips my all time favorite, Harry Potter. I've got years and years of children's book reading in my future, so why not? We are currently nine chapters into the first book. I plan on plugging threw them all with her, if possible.

  • DS rarely stays still and non-fussy long enough for story time, but when he does H has been reading Ringworld to him (H is a huge sci-fi nerd).

  • I read him whatever I'm reading on my phone. Sooo the new Colleen Hoover book, the bump, Facebook, the news. I tried reading him a book I read to his big sister and he wasn't having it :/ maybe he knew it was a kids book. Not a clue lol
  • We have been reading time articles, the bump, picture books, etc. really anything I read she gets to listen to it. I figure it's good for her. DH talks sports to her and talks up foods I don't like and he does.
  • I've been reading children's books to him but it just occurred to me I should read him whatever I'm reading yesterday. Seems like I'm a little slow on that idea! But at least I'd been talking to him a fair amount so less guilt? I'd love to sing to him more but I am horrible with lyrics. So instead I've been making up lyrics to songs. It's not pretty but hopefully it's still good for him!

I have a trashy romance novel that I've been wanting to start. Going to start reading him that and sensor the rated R parts. :D (I go back to work in 11 days. Don't judge!)

It's hard to hold him and read to him at the same time. How do you ladies do it? I have been attempting to read him our Bible stories for kids but it's hard to show him the pictures.

I read on the kindle app on my phone.. So it's easy to do one handed ;) That's where most of his big sisters books are too. Every week kindle has free kids books so I have a ton on there for her. They have pictures and everything (:
  • @silverwings72‌ I read to him sitting down with Jackson "sitting" in my lap with his back to my stomach and chest.

In the same vein.. what do you ladies sing to your LO's?  Children songs or whatever music that you like?  Today we sang from the Les Mis and Wicked soundtrack. :P

Ooo, yes! Pips loves to be sung too! Her favorite at the moment is Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes. I've added two more verses to satisfy her. I also sing constantly in the car, so country music when I drive, and sometimes at home, if I use my iPad. I also sing songs from my summer camp days. Little Red Caboose and Gypsy Rover are my favorites. I sing whatever I'm in the mood for mostly, sometimes Christmas carols, sometimes Motown, just whatever suits me at the time really.

Edit: I forgot to say thank you to all of you who said you read your LO whatever you're reading. This had not ever occurred to me. Love the idea. Tried it with Pips today while use the app Doulingo (trying to relearn spanish). Pips loved all the new sounds and talked back to me the entire time. Thank you!!

  • Robert Munsch!! It's really just an excuse to reread them all because I love him so much!!

She got lots of books for Christmas, so we'll never have a shortage.

I also sing a balance of lullabies and new music. And lots and lots of Anne Murray!

  • I read and sing whatever I am reading or singing to my two year old. When she was a baby, I used to read her whatever I was reading at the time though. As little babies, they really just like to hear the sound of your voice, so I really don't think it matters what it is.
  • I read some board books with Norah during the day, but currently her daddy is reading through Don Quixote out loud to her during her bedtime nursing session :)

  • We read Cam a lot of books that were given to me during my baby showers, but the only one he really seems to like is when we read The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy out loud. It started out as a joke, but halfway through the book he's still calming down to it and falling asleep to it.

  • For singing, I sing somewhere over the rainbow a lot as a lullaby, the itsy bitsy spider cause he likes the hand movements, and a lot of dave matthews because I have a pandora station that plays a lot of acoustic dave matthews, jack johnson, etc that I play for him during the day.

  • @flutterbuggie...we sing Jesus Loves Me a lot. I also make up songs for her. When she's crying I always walk in circles from the kitchen to the living room singing "Emmy Shay, Emmy Shay, Everything's going to be ok. Do do de do, do do de dooo..." She's going to think I'm one crazy mommy when she gets bigger. Haha

Haha I do a version of this. I sing "Lucy Q,Lucy Q, we love you Lucy Q..."

I was singing lots of Christmas songs until recently. As part of her bedtime routine we play a pandora lullaby station and I often ding along.

As for reading, at this point it's mostly whatever I'm reading while nursing -- the wonder weeks book, newspaper, a recipe. I'll probably start to read more children's books soon.
