Glucose Screening Test

I had my 24 week OB check up yesterday. Everything looked good. I was shocked at How much weight I've gained in just a month! It's just not normal to be happy about weight gain but I guess that means my baby girl is growing. However, they didn't schedule a glucose screening test. I don't go back for another four weeks for my 28 week check up. Is this normal? I thought the test was done between 24 and 28 weeks. Has anyone else had theirs done or at least scheduled. I should have asked him but completely forgot about it due to a bunch of other concerns I had. Just curious if it's normal to have it done after 28 weeks.

  • Mine automatically schedules the glucose test with the 28 week appointment but the test doesn't appear separately on my online chart. You could call your Ob's office to double check and schedule it if it hasn't been done.

  • I had my test done at my last appt, at which I was 27 weeks.  There was no real scheduling; there's a lab in my doctor's office and they just asked if I had the time and then handed me the drink.  Wasn't nearly as big a deal as I thought it would be.

  • I have mine scheduled for 27wks, but I would call the OB office just in case.
  • @rsaj0807‌ I gained 10 in 4 weeks. I'm not complaining by any means though. I know I'm going to gain weight. It was just a shock to see I had gained so much so quickly! Lol. And it makes me feel better to know You're having yours at 28 weeks. I think I'm going to call Just to make sure on Monday morning.
  • Mine is at 28 week so my next appointment.  @rsaj0809 & @tif5596 makes me feel better to see that you all gained that in the last 4 weeks…I gained 11 according to the dr scale but 5 according to mine…damn you Christmas treats…damn you!

  • @crossfit704‌ but that just means baby is growing! It is still shocking as a FTM though. Women are trained to see weight gain as a bad thing. I think that's why so many women are concerned by it during pregnancy. But there's so much going on and growing how can you not gain weight? I am happy to hear others are gaining along with me and at about the same rate.
  • @tif5596 I am not worried about it :)  I also know I've eaten waaaay more crap the usual.  I am all for a growing healthy baby boy!

  • I've got mine scheduled for the 21st this month.. I'll be 29 weeks.
  • My MW schedules the one hour test for the 28 week appointment, unless you have PCOS. PCOS patients she has test at 24 weeks and 28 weeks. I failed the one hour test, couldn't keep down the drink on an empty stomach for the three hour test, and have to retake it tomorrow. Ick.
  • @EssJayCee‌ is the earlier testing for PCOS patients standard or is that just what your MW does? I'm a text book PCOS patient. Even had one ovary removed because of swelling associated with too many cysts.
  • I'm doing mine at my 27 week appointment, just because it worked out well that I have the day off from work.  My doctor does it around 28 weeks.  You don't have to schedule it, but they try to have you do it the day of an appointment to make it one less thing to worry about.

  • Just got mine done yesterday @ 24w4days my doctor ordered it at my 20week check up and told me to do the glucose test before my next OB appointment...24-28 weeks
  • I took the glucose test on Monday at 24 Weeks + 1 Day. I am nervous about my results. I started gaining weight (rapidly) almost immediately after I became pregnant. I've gained about 20 pounds total. So I was shocked that didn't gain anymore weight at my last appointment despite the Holidays. Perhaps it's the heartburn and limited stomach capacity? Or, maybe that's just how my body works? Either way I know exactly how it feels to see the number go up so quickly. Try not to worry. It will probably balance out later.
  • I had the 1 hr at 26 weeks and found out I dailies in the mail yesterday- happy New Years! So now I have to go for the 3 hr, fingers crossed that I pass. My dr does the 1 hr at 26 weeks so that the 3 hr can be scheduled if necessary before 28 weeks.
  • I had mine at 26 weeks on Tuesday. It did give me a headache. They just told me not to have anything with sugar for a few hours prior.

I had my 24 week appointment this week and my doctor gave me the orders for the test, I have to go to another clinic to do it. I won't schedule it until I'm 27 weeks though, like the 22nd I think.

  • I got the glucose drink at my 24 week appointment and go back for the test at my 28 week visit.
  • I'll be taking mine at 24+4 but I was told that's on the earlier side since I'm having twins.
  • I'm having mine on Tuesday. I'll be 26w 5d.
  • I'll be 29 weeks for mine.

  • I took mine at my 24 week appointment. I failed :disappointed:
I took the three hour a few days later and I failed again--but not terribly elevated. Officially diagnosed GD. I'm picking up my monitor tomorrow and go for training on Tuesday. They are giving me a referral for a nutritionalist--although I think a lot is common sense. Up your greens and proteins. Limited your carbs--complex when you can. Natural carbs are better. I'm just a little disappointed with myself.

  • I'll be getting mine tomorrow at my 24 week apt
  • @karboss‌ Don't be disappointed in yourself! GD happens. Its not always something you can control. Just do what they tell you and keep yourself and your baby healthy. That's all that's important at this point! Head up Momma! We're on the downward slope now!
  • Dreading my Jan 8th appointment. I can not stand the glucose test  :-&
  • My drs office does every 5 wk apts with low risk pregnancies which Im really liking :) I just had mine at 25 wks with the results posted the next day on the web site. Sugar looks good, Im anemic though but not surprised. I usally am lol

I have PCOS and dont have to take mine any earlier. Mine is scheduled for 28 weeks.
It varies from practice to practice, but itbis recommended that PCOS patients be screened early.

I am dreading trying to retake the 3 hour tomorrow :/ After struggling with hyperemesis for the first 20+ weeks, I'm only just now able to eat and get sick from fasting. Bah!

Don't beat yourself up over it. While what happens from here on out is in your control (to an extent- just try to follow the diet), you can have gestational diabetes through no fault of your own. Sometimes, it just happens.
  • Mine will be at my 28 week appointment.

I have a 2-hour in two weeks at 28+3. Or maybe 3-hour. I've been told two different things, but either way, DH gets to stay at home for that one. Also getting tdap and rhogam the same day! There will be some internal hateful grumblings occurring for sure.

I'm also getting my Tdap and rhoGam when I go back for my GTT, but thankfully mine is only 1 hour.
  • I attempted to take mine at the 26w mark. However I had the drink and was almost done with my time when the power went out at my doctors office. So I'm rescheduled in two weeks or whenever I feel like stopping in. Not excited for the drink again. Made me feel sick.
  • I'm doing mine at my 28 week appointment too!
  • Mine is Monday. 28 weeks exactly.

  • I had my one hour at 26 weeks and failed :(. I'm current sitting in the lab for the 3 hr test. 100gms of sugar would taste a lot better in a hot fudge sunday!! Lol :)
  • I will be 29 weeks when I have to take my test. I just go in 1 hr earlier for my scheduled appt that day.
  • I took mine today, at 24 weeks 6 days. My doctor only offers the 2 hour test, skipping the 1 hour test.
