Does anyone have advice or success stories about getting over a weaning regression after an illness? LO was down to just twice a day (morning and night) and I was JUUUUST about to drop the morning feed when he got pretty sick for 10 days with back to back viruses.
So illness, plus mom being around for five days straight over Christmas break, has really set him back to nursing whenever he wants. I mean, he was up to 5-6 times a day again. I tried to refuse, offer milk or food first, but he was having none of that nonsense. I knew he was sick so I caved. I was sick too and wanted him to get the benefit of my immune system too. My poor boobs are so confused now. I'm sitting here at work engorged (pump weaned months ago) and praying that I don't get clogged ducts/mastitis from this. Going to grab a cabbage at lunch for cabbage leaf compresses and drinking peppermint tea to help dry up.
I can't just say no. He will cry for up to an hour and refuses other food and drinks. It SUCKS. Advice? Support? Commiseration? How do I learn to just say no to nursing?
Re: Weaning Regression after illness- Advice?
I did get a good tip from nature mama website saying to make a special warm drink and try to offer that instead of nursing. I'm thinking like hot chamomile tea, coconut milk, honey, and cinnamon- a special yummy treat.
I also saw a tip that said to wear complicated clothing so there's not easy access, and I'm like, ok well my kid will just sit in my lap and cry and point at my chest, so I'm trying to avoid that.
Sigh.
