My LO will be one on Jan. 16th. I'm know our pedi will give us her thoughts on introducing milk at our 1 yr visit, but I'm just curious how other mamas have done it.
Haven't done it with DS yet, but with DD we just gave it to her as is the fist time around. That was a no go, so we added some with formula to get her used to it. We slowly added more milk each day over a few days. She's not a big milk drinker but she adjusted to the change easily.
ETA - with DS I plan to give it to him as is the first time too because if he takes it straight the. I don't have to worry about it. If he hates it I may have to punk some.
Started with DD a few weeks ago and did exactly this.
Married June 2010. DD born 1/13 via Csection at 41w5d after 47 hours of labor
I started out with 25% whole milk in her formula at every feeding. We are up to 50% now. She's doing fine with it. DS wouldn't take to it so we had to add strawberry NESQUICK to his. That seems so funny to me 5 years later.
I'm transitioning from BM to CM but right now I'm putting an ounce to his 5 oz bottle. I do give him CM during meals though he only takes a few sips before he tosses the cup onto the floor. SO has an intolerance so I was concerned but DS eats whole milk and cheese and seems to be doing fine.
(gosh I haven't posted in AGES, but I figure this is as good of a post as any)
Right now, I mix whatever leftover BM I get from pumping with WCM and put it in a sippy cup for dinner. With DS1 WCM was my "hard line" for bottles. If it has any WCM, it had to be in a sippy or straw cup. I'll be glad to ditch bottles.

To wean off formula and onto milk (this is what we did with DD and what her ped said to do):
Day 1 through 3: 4 oz formula mixed with 2 oz milk
Day 4 through 6: 2 oz formula to 4 oz milk
Day 7 on 6 oz of milk
If there was any sign of allergic reaction we were to stop the process and call the doc
