Crib bumpers

Anyone using them? At what age is it ok? My little guy is constantly rolling into the sides of his crib now and I feel bad for his little head.

Re: Crib bumpers

  • We are using the mesh bumpers. LO was moving so much she was getting her little feet stuck between the bars

  • I use the mess bumpers but if your baby can hold his head up and move his head if something is blocking his air then I think it's ok.
  • Loading the player...
  • I got a mesh bumper passed down to me and for the love of heaven can't figure out how to put the thing in the crib! Failure failure failure. Her feet are always between the bars when she's playing in there.
  • My mom had to watch a video online to figure out how to put on the mesh bumper. I couldn't figure it out
  • We have the mesh bumper also.
  • We have the mesh bumpers as well; and add us to the list of people who had to Youtube a video on how to install the stupid things.

  • I have real bumpers, but they are ventilated.  Like this:image

We aren't using them right now, but once he starts hitting the edge of the crib at night, I totally plan to.  I am not really worried about suffocation; he can move only his own really well.

@lynds002 Where did you get those? I'm ISO some now that LO is rolling all over and can easily control his head. Those look great!

  • We put a mesh bumper in when he was 3 months or so. He was getting his legs caught a lot.

  • Mesh bumper here too!
  • We started using them when LO turned 4 mos but DH had the hardest time trying to figure how to put it on! Why are they so difficult to figure out!??
  • We have mesh ones too and I love it, because DS would otherwise have his legs through the bars all night long.

One glitch: cat just figured out how to scale the mesh from the outside of the crib. Time to start shutting the nursery door at night...

  • We use the mesh bumpers but now she is rolling to the side of the crib and yanking on them...so I am rethinking them. Plus, I can't get them on right either!

I am so happy I am not the only one who had a hard time getting them on. DH had to do it and made it look so easy.

We've been using the mesh bumpers for the last two months and they are working out great my LO moves a ton in his sleep and he would put his arm through the bars and than go an move without taking his arm out which was causing him to wake up screaming in the MOTN.

  • sTMs How long do you use bumpers for?
  • My mom made traditional bumpers which I took off as soon as she left *guilt* but I'm considering putting them back on when I get home from vacation. The ones she made have ties that go around every other post so the fabric is held very securely around the sides of the crib. MIL had a crib set up at her house when we visited with store bought bumpers that only tied at the corners and they were so saggy! I saw them and though "now I get why people say these are dangerous". Mine are way tighter though so I think I'll give them a try.
  • I currently have traditional bumpers on my crib, but once she starts rolling and really moving around her crib, I'll transition to mesh.

Or at least that's the plan.  :)

  • Crib? Actually DS is so used to cosleeping that he doesn't really move around much when he naps in the crib. I've never felt the need for bumpers.

However, I do know they're typically removed around when the crib is fully lowered. Once baby starts standing and then climbing you don't want to give them any footholds to help them figure out how to escape sooner.
