Babies on the Brain

Shower Only?

So my husband and I are thinking of starting the TTC game.

When that happens, we will only have a shower going forward. Yes, I know, odd question, but what are the drawbacks of bath vs shower in terms of after baby comes and I'm healing, bathing the baby and so on and so forth?

Thanks for the input ladies (and the men) - Nothing would seem trivial at this point to me!

Re: Shower Only?

  • Yea there's a million baby baths designed to fit any and everywhere.  I wouldn't spend a second even worrying about it.

And, really, the last two summers (when DS was 1 and 2) he showered with either H or I almost every evening - it was a kill 2 birds with one stone idea.  And he loves the shower.  ::shrug::

  • Right after you give birth they will give you a sitz bath to sit in and that feels amazing on your bottom. I would say that using that prevents the need of sitting in an actual bath. Also, a shower is no biggie with children. They will grow up liking whichever they are used to. I wouldn't worry about it.

  • My son hated baths until recently (15 months old) so I would shower with him and honestly I found it much easier than bathing him. Now that he takes baths we have a blow up toddler bath that is the perfect size for him and gives him enough space to splash around and play with some small bath toys. Shower only is totally do-able and as for healing after baby- shower was perfectly fine for that as well although I'm sure there are some benefits to having a bath tub

  • Perfect thanks all! I've heard of the shower with baby method, and I'm glad to hear that it has worked out so well for everyone. I won't worry so much - it seems that there isn't much to worry about!

As for the sitz bath, I can always pick one up online if they don't get me one...
  • If you end up with a c-section you won't be doing a bath for a couple of weeks anyways, just showers, because of the incision. As PPs said, seems awfully early to be worrying about something like this and there are alternatives. Not everyone has a bath tub.
