Trouble TTC

AW: One of these IUIs is not like the others

Yesterday, as I lay on the table, bare assed with legs in stirrups, I could not believe that this is my fourth IUI. Seriously, it feels like I just did my first one a month ago. Anywho, I have a new RE, and her office is amazing. Totally worth the 2.5 hour drive at 5:30 in the morning on the day after Christmas. The only thing is that this one hurt a lot more than the others. I had a little bit of spotting yesterday and today. There was also some cramping and, well, I can only describe it as a feeling in my nethers like I had been riding on a skinny horse for too long. I imagine there can be a lot of variability between IUIs, but the other 3 felt exactly the same and nothing like this one. Anyone have a similar experience? Should I be worried? Deep down I am hoping that this is a good sign, and it means that my old OB wasn't doing it right with the other ones.

As a side note, when we got into the room, the nurse handed MH a vial filled with our donor's sperm. As she walked out she told him to warm it up and think happy thoughts. At the other place, the sample was always already loaded into the catheter when we arrived, so this was totally unexpected. The look on MH's face when she gave it to him was priceless, and I almost burst out laughing. His initial response was "this guy didn't even have to buy me a drink" and then he called himself an incubator. It was hilarious, but thankfully, I think it made him feel more involved.

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday!

Re: AW: One of these IUIs is not like the others

  • My second IUI hurt much more than my first. Unfortunately neither stuck. I doubt discomfort (or lack thereof) indicates anything. I assumed that the cramps a few hours after the IUI was ovulation.

  • I'm so sorry you've had to go through 4 IUIs. :( No fun. I hope this is the last.

My first hurt but that was because I needed surgery on the cervix. After that, the next one only hurt because it took her two tries, the one after didn't hurt at all, the next was more painful, and the most recent hurt but I forgot to take Tylenol (if I remember it all correctly). I think it's normal to be different, the cervix can move around and be more open/closed soft/firm high/low depending on your estrogen level and just were exactly you are in relation to O time and of course how relaxed/tense you are.

Oh my, I cannot believe that they gave the vial to YH! So glad he took it well and felt good about it. That is so sweet!

I only have one IUI under my belt (pun intended).
This is fantastic! I love puns :)

@BlueFairy5 - YH better come to the ET (if you have to do it that is). MH tends to be super involved, but a lot of that probably has to do with the fact that we have to use a donor.

  • Your DH reaction was priceless, I like that your RE makes him feel involved. IUI #1 hurt like hell - the nurses did it, couldn't find it, then the RE inserted it - easy peasy, IUI #2 & 3 was a breeze, IUI #4 day 1 hurt with cramping, IUI #4 day 2 easy peasy. Good luck - I'm hoping its your last one.
