Cloth Diapering

working out postpartum

so it's been 4 weeks since Henry was born...I can't believe how fast it went! @tj1979 forbid me to join the Kick ass challenge b/c I was only a few days PP  :\">
How long have most of you waited to start exercising? I counted house work and chasing a toddler and taking care of a baby as "light" exercise, but now I want to start getting into shape. Any suggestions? TJ, do I have permission to work out now ;)

  • Loading the player...
  • My OB gave me the ok at 6 weeks. I did take a few walks with the stroller before that, but nothing more strenuous. When you do start, drink tons of water and listen to your body if it says it's too much!

  • okay so here's what I did...I set my phone timer for 20 mins and I put on some music and walked in place/danced (I can't dance lol) gently. It felt great just to do some movement. Nothing strenuous I promise ladies! Not trying to rush things!! I also found a blog called blondponytail.com just googling around...I might try some of her exercises after 6 weeks have passed.

  • Seriously, do your kegels. I have been having violent coughing fits for the past month, which have been causing me to leak... Ugh. I had leftover incontinence pads from my PP days, but once I used them up switched to cloth pads. I wish I didn't need them at all though.
  • I think a big factor is, how did you exercise during your pregnancy? People that exercised throughout their pregnancies typically have more cardiovascular endurance when they start exercising than those that are essentially starting from scratch (me). Some people need to start more slowly than others but definitely not before 6 weeks when your ute has had time to heal. Also, sleep deprivation is no good for your body either. Sometimes a good nights sleep is better for you than an hour at the gym.
  • I was technically cleared at my 6 week appointment, but she said to take it slow. I have had two c-sections and there was no way I was ready then.

I'm 4 months out on the 2nd and I still am sore if I pack the car seat too much. Right now I am watching what I eat and making sure I don't lift things wrong.

  • Most of my exercise during the first year came from walking the dog. But I really need to work on my core strength. Hard to find time and energy, though!
  • I really like Bikini Body Mommy. The exercises are intense but short.

I pinned this a couple days ago!
