Well, if I learned one thing this season, through multiple friend and family parties, this kid has zero interest in unwrapping. He can make it through one gift and that's it. I know the parties can be over stimulating and it's hard to focus but I gave up on wrapping this Christmas. I assume this is the last Christmas that I can get away with this and I feel weird about it but it seems kind of pointless. I put bows on a bunch of stuff and put a couple of things in bags. That's it. Anyone else?
Update: no wrapping was a great success. He was actually much less overwhelmed. He had a couple of big gifts that we had set up (a motorized train set and a work bench) so he was thrilled to run over and just start playing. Then he would take a break, go over to the tree and discover something new. It helped him pace himself, I think. I'm really glad I didn't stay up all night wrapping!
We have 4 open .. and he is currently watching George yet again LOL
... I am glad we aren't the only ones who still have a tree full of presents haha. but this is what Christmas is about .. relaxing and enjoying the day.. not trying to rush through food and presents.
We have Google hangouts running for friends and family to drop in and say Hi, His train table is currently serving as a breakfast buffet..
Perfect start to the day ... we shall have everything open by the weekend..I think LOL
We never wrap Santa presents so those are out for the boys to see when they wake up. They can play with those while we cook breakfast and clean up then we do presents with family. Hudson LOVED unwrapping presents this year and helped anyone with a wrapped present in his vicinity. When he would lose interest and start playing with a toy, we would just focus on the adults and then get back to the kids when they were ready to open again.
TEN HOURS ... that is how long it took to get to opening his kitchen.. biggest present in the room got left till last. I finally pulled a mommy move and told him.. "Hey Dominik, there is a phone in there"
.. BAM a hole was punched in the front of the paper and in went an arm and out came a phone LOL .. was funny as heck; since anyone who knows him. knows he is a total tech head.
He then proceeded to unwrap the rest and I think he really liked it.. we did end up microwaving the Rescue Hero's ( oops sorry Billy & Wendy LOL) and his sweet potatoes (real ones) ended up in the fridge.. I think that smacks of success LOL
He still has presents that haven't arrived yet too * groan.
All in all I think he had fun. He sure enjoyed chasing his dad around with a foam sword trying to beat on him instead of using it to get the balloons .. ah well...poor Daddy haha. I strung up a crepe net I made with crepe ribbons, and filled it with balloons so he could beat them down like a pinata this year. Normally we just fill the room with balloons, but I wanted to do something different now he is a bit older. It was fun.
I love that my kid was actually enjoying the gifts as he opened them not just rushing through it all till he found the coolest thing to play with. We get so impatient as parents sometimes wanting to see our hard work pay off, help our kids get things done NOW..I think we sometimes miss out on the important parts in our rush to the final goal. I have to remind DH sometimes to HELP him do things, not DO them for him.
Been a hectic few days so I'm just popping in now, but we STILL have wrapped presents under the tree for DS that he hasn't gotten to. It was all a bit overwhelming for him on Christmas morning and he was definitely spoiled. We're trying to figure out if we can just hold onto some of them for his birthday lol! Glad to hear he's not the only one who lost interest in unwrapping new stuff
I'm actually totally okay with it - we were at a birthday party yesterday and the kid (turning 4) just TORE through every single gift - I don't think opening gifts took more than 3 minutes. It made me glad that DS wanted to play with everything he opened, rather than just rushing to the next gift.
We go together like a wink and a smile. June 27, 2009
