Bladder Infections | UTI

This has been my second bladder infection since being pregnant. I'm 25 weeks today, and I don't know what's going wrong? Doctor said it won't effect the baby as long as it doesn't get out of hand, untreated, or reach the kidneys. I know it's common, but just worried. On antibiotics again for the second time.

It sounds like you've already done the responsible thing by seeking treatment. I hope it clears up quickly!

    Good luck!
  • I have gotten bladder infections regularly since getting married. My midwives assured me that it's normal. I've heard they can be worse during pregnancy although I personally have the opposite (not getting them when I am pregnant). It sounds like your doctor covered all of the bases. Get one and go get treated, make sure it doesn't progress to a kidney infection (these are terrible, trust me). I know when I feel the beginning of one I take cranberry tablets and a swig of Apple cider vinegar 1-2 times a day. But ask your doctor before trying these things. Other than that, I don't know what to tell you. Hopefully this will be your last one.
  • I've had two during this pregnancy also. I don't have many suggestions to prevent them besides drink lots of water and cranberry juice. My doctor doesn't seem to give me any insight in preventing them but continues to give me a prescription to clear it up. Hopefully this is your last one. Seems like a common thing when pregnant. :)
  • I agree with all the advice you've been given with the addition of avoiding baths if you are a bath person! I hope you get to feeling better quickly!
  • It's very common to get UTIs while pregnant. I've had 2 already so my doctor prescribed me a preventive nightly antibiotic. I don't know how I got them and I try everything to prevent it but it still happens.
  • Its from the pressure if the uterus some women are more prone to utis i take cranberry supplements i found it helped alot but as u get futhur along u shouldnt be getting it again

  • @miahbelle‌, coitus maritus resulted in me suffering from an unfair number of bladder infections. Now I make sure to go pee within five minutes of having sex, and I no longer get them.

I second 100% pure cranberry juice and apple cider vinegar. I mix both with water and drink lots. As PP have mentioned, lean forward and really empty your bladder.
  • I have had a total of seven bladder infections during this pregnancy. It came back about a week after my antibiotics were finished. I'm now on a nightly preventative for the remainder of my pregnancy as well. My Drs haven't given a reason for why I keep getting them, other then they are more common during pregnancy. I have never had one before getting pregnant. I will be following up with a urologist after delivery to make sure everything goes back to normal.

I usually go to the bathroom afterwards, but not within a certain time frame. I'll have to try that. I've started taking cranberry preventively and that seems to help.
  • Drink adequate fluids, pee after every time you have sex, practice proper wiping hygiene, cotton panties, air yourself out at night, and maybe throw in personal wipes on top of regular TP.

Otherwise, our anatomy makes it more common for women to get UTIs than men. Being pregnant adds more physical pressure and increases the risk of infections.

  • Drink 100% natural cranberry juice & lots of water about a gallon a day no caffeine whatsoever it makes it worse. Also make sure no sex at least for 2 weeks until your infection is clear
  • The other bummer is that having a previous bladder infection can leave your bladder lining raw and irritated and vulnerable to more infections - hence why they can occur in clusters. Did someone mention the cranberry capsules you can take instead of the juice? IMO they are not enough to treat a UTI once it's established but they can help prevent when taken daily.
  • If by chance you are using anything scented to clean or freshen your lady bits, stop immediately. This includes; feminine wash, wipes, douche, sprays or colored/scented toilet paper.
  • UTIs are really common in pregnancy. D Mannose is a great natural way of treating UTIs without risking the possibly side effects of antibiotics. I had one a few weeks ago and treated it with that and a good probiotic. Within 24 hours symptoms were almost completely gone.
  • Some people are so rude!
Just keep on top of treating the uti and drink lots of water. Eating healthy natural foods (esp acidophilus yoghurt) is one natural way to help lessen the infections

    Fixed your post for you.
Lol LOVE it. I was a little confused, too!

Seconding what everyone is saying. Do not, under any circumstances, give it the chance to reach your kidneys. I already have a swollen kidney due to my baby sitting pretty far back in my hips, and doctors have told me that if I get an infection, I will be staying in the hospital to clear it up. It's not worth it. Take care of yourself. LOTS and lots of fluids, cranberry juice, apple cider vinegar, good personal hygiene, cotton underwear, the works. (& the 5 minute post-sex bathroom rule!)
