xp, bottles=up all night

Hello all. I ebf. 2 weeks ago we introduced bottles. One bottle around 7pm, every day. First tommie tippees-which took her forever to finish and she would be fussing the whole time. Now dr browns-which were much faster. Before bottles she slept great at night. And since she stays up so late Except sunday night when we skipped the bottle and she slept from 930-5. So clearly this sleeping thing is bottle related. Any suggestions on what to do? She is 8 weeks old btw. Tia.

  • Why are you doing a bottle at night? Could you just not do that?

  • Well I am giving bottles because I will be returning to work and would like to go out once in awhile. We do it at night because my husband gives it to her and he works during the day.

  • We were doing 2-3, but then upped to 3-4. Same results.

  • My H says hes been burping her. Maybe he needs to get more burps out of her than what he has been doing.

  • What time does H get home? Is it right before bedtime? We sometimes give DD a bottle in the evening around 7/8, followed by some playtime to keep her happy and wear her out a bit. Then I BF around 9/10. I don't see much of a difference in how well she sleeps but if anything she seems to go to sleep faster on nights when we give her the bottle. She's a lazy comfort snacker so I never really know how much she's getting when she BFs but a 3 oz bottle in the evening fills her up enough to be interactive and keeps her from fussing. But if we give her a bottle later, right before bedtime, its like a shot of adrenaline and she's wide awake afterwards. Try giving it to her earlier if at all possible. Good luck!

  • I am not sure based on one night I would link the sleeping and bottle yet, but if you really think that is the problem how about changing the bottle to the morning instead?

This is exactly what we do. He gets the first feed from when he gets home. Im wondering if I should give her one earlier in the day myself for her to get used to it. This clearly isnt ideal because then I would have to pump and feed her. And usually when my h gives her one in the evening, I pump and then leave for a jog, or laundry or make dinner.

  • Yeah I would see if he can do a morning feed before he leaves? Or like you said pump and feed her. Not ideal but maybe you don't need to do it everyday if she takes it fine.

  • Just an update, I tested my theory again last night. We didn't give her a bottle. She slept great. I'm going to try some gas relieving methods this weekend.
