GTKY: What Warms Your Heart?

'Tis the season of giving and believing in a bit of magic or maybe of just believing in general human kindness.

It can be a big thing or it can be a small thing ("raindrops on roses" and all that Julie Andrews "Sound of Music" crap), but I wonder, what warms your heart?  What makes you smile and think, "you know, as long as there is ______ then things really aren't so bad."

I kind of get all warm and fuzzy when I hear about those "pay it forward" chains that occur at Starbucks.  You know, where one guy pays for the order behind them and then it is like dominos, each taking care of the next.

The first flowers of spring. Or even just seeing green chutes coming up through the soil when there's still snow on the ground. It reminds me that, even after months and months of cold and darkness and despair, there is hope. And more good things to come.

For me it's seeing others treat people in retail nicely (like cashiers or baristas, etc), a well placed call or text from a friend, a surprise gift that I didn't deserve, sweet kisses from my DH for no reason, seeing wildlife like Deer or groundhogs on my drive to/from work, giving others an unexpected gift/card, finding my cat under the covers of our bed because she's trying to stay warm :-)  I'm sure there are others.

@Meredithcarole - I like the pay it forward things as well.

I am 100% with @holdingouthope and @whitneyandconcep!  Elderly couples holding hands, people helping animals in need and puppy kisses with puppy breath are all heart warming and melting for me!

My furbaby Tucker warms my heart and any other puppies/dogs.  I just love being with my family too luckily my DHs family and mine get along including both sets of parents and my brother and his sister.  Some people aren't so fortunate.  When all eight of us get together it makes me so happy.  This past summer we took a vacation to Maine and it was so much fun.  :x

Also, ballet it is my passion even if I'm not the best at it.

I'm with @HoldingOutHope‌ elderly couples get me every time! When I comment on it to mh he usually takes my hand or gives me a kiss. Makes me feel like everything will be ok

Giving: in general warms my heart. Whether that's someone giving a fur baby a home or giving presents.

This year my family and I decided that we had enough and didn't "need" anything more. So we went down to the local coffee shop and picked families off the giving tree who truly were in need. Paying it forward feels incredible. And when my little toddler girl gets her pink boots she needed, I hope she also likes all the fixings that went with it.

I agree with the elderly couples holding hands and being all lovey dovey as well. 

So many things that warm my heart have already been said and I just want to say people being nice in general. Holding the door open for people and that person saying thank you, someone dropping their groceries and people helping pick them up, the pay it forward things I love too. 

My pup and my kitty also. I can be having the worst day and when I get home their excitement just makes it all go away. Also when MH walks by me and gently puts his hand on my back or my arm as he goes by. 

 

But mostly this: 

"you know, as long as there is loving and kind people in my life, then things really aren't so bad."

Holiday related: is when you read about people paying of all the layaways in a store.

Non holiday related: When you hear about extreme good deeds. For example a business owner in Chicage put up a homeless family in a hotel for a few weeks to help them out after hearing the story about their son the little league (I think or some other sport) all star without a home.

I guess all of you ladies and what warms your heart is what warms my heart!

Okay... all that mush aside, it warms my heart when families are kind to each other. I think when we are having a bad day or are upset by something the first thing that takes a dive is how we treat our family (however you define family is okay with me). When I see families being kind to each other it makes me smile big!!!

Speaking of commercials, I love the old school Campbell's soup one with the snowman that melts inTO a little boy. They play it around this time every year. It's my all-time favorite!!

So many things with the cattle....newborn calf trying to take its first steps & nursing, calves bucking & playing in the pasture, seeing one cow "babysitting" all the calves (I have a pic on my phone I'll try to attach). I could go on for days so I'll stop there.

My dogs always find ways to warm my heart. But one specific action that really touches me....some of y'all may remember Buck (our rescue). Well when I pour out his food (twice-a-day),  he reaches out (while he's sitting) and licks my hand/arm as I pull away. It's like he is saying 'thank you'. It's the sweetest gesture....he's such a loving soul. I really think he appreciates EVERYTHING bc of his past.

@blackbird818‌ I think dogs are capable of gratitude. After every meal my dog goes to find the person who fed her and snuggles a minute. We think it is her way of "thanking" us.
