pumping at night?

My daughter is 7 weeks old and is starting to sleep longer at night (about 7-8 hours). I currently pump about 2 times a day after feedings to help increase my supply and to freeze some. Also if we give her a bottle I usually pump. Since she is sleeping longer at night do I need to pump in the middle of the night? I really want to make it at least a year so I don't want to dry up! But the sleep is needed too!

Re: pumping at night?

  • No need to pump in the middle of the night unless you're trying to build up a supply.  As PP said, your body will figure it out and adjust accordingly.  I EBF'd DS until his first birthday and he was STTN around 2 or 3 months.  Enjoy the sleep!

  • Congrats on the sleep!  Agree with PPs that as long as you're feeding on demand, there's no need to pump overnight.  You may feel uncomfortable for a couple of days, but things should settle after that.  You're so lucky to have such a great little sleeper!
