Cleaning Schedule

How many of you have a weekly cleaning schedule you abide by? I'm trying to find ways to keep our house more organized/surprise visitor ready, and I'm hoping if I have some guidelines to follow I shouldn't let things fall so far behind.

For those of you that do follow a set cleaning schedule, do you find it easy to stick to? Some of the ones I'm finding on Pinterest seem to be a bit overkill and time consuming. I don't have time to be washing walls and baseboards every single day.

  • I used to, before DD was born.  I loved this schedule, and modified it to my household needs.

However now, besides the everyday basics, the deep cleaning is the hard part.  Not only is there a drastic reduction in time, DD is also afraid of the vacuum.

I have seriously contemplated hiring a maid once a month for this short term period - and maybe take DD out of the house for the few hours so she won't get so scared of the noises.

Once everything eases up around here, I will go back to my old schedule - similar to what I linked.

This is very similar to what we do too, with the weekly and monthly list, and it really has helped me stay on top of things. Since I'm home with the kids all day the house tends to look like a disaster zone by days end, haha.

We also keep a check sheet of seasonal maintenence that needs to get done. This includes things like aerating the lawn, checking the fire alarms, repairing caulking around sinks, etc.

It sounds super obsessive, but I'm the type of person that needs to have things written down in front of me otherwise I forget, and I've learned from experience that DH is the same way. It works for us, because we can both look at the list and see, for example, that the gutters need to be cleaned and whoever has the time can do it and check it off the list.
  • Everyday dishes, 1 load of laundry, sweep, wipe down table, counters (bathroom and kitchen)
    Monday: deep clean kitchen
    Tuesday: deep clean living room
    Wednesday: deep clean bathroom
    Thursday: deep clean bedrooms
    Friday: basement, hallways

I just started this a few weeks ago but it's helped me out a lot and I don't feel so overwhelmed. Especially by not leaving all laundry for the same day

  • @mcbenny‌ deep clean for me means mopping/steaming the floor, washing out sinks with whatever cleaner I use, cleaning the stove, cleaning the microwave out, fridge etc. Same as bathroom and bedrooms and living room. I guess just using the cleaners where as a day that isn't designated to that room just gets a quick tidy and wiped down with a cloth instead of cleaners

  • I've gotten a laundry schedule and regular dishwasher loading/unloading down.  When I'm on my game, I get the kitchen cleaned and the family room picked up each night.  Vacuuming is reserved for the weekends and I can usually get the boys' bathroom cleaned while I'm doing their bath.  Our bathroom gets neglected more often than I'd like.

I would only admit to y'all that I had an app with my list. But seriously the actual list is really for my husband but he has since really stepped his game up and I could toss it. My house is cleaner now than it was with one child or childless since he started doing more.
What was the app?  I need something like that for DH, I've realized that it isn't that he doesn't want to help out, he just doesn't SEE the stuff that needs to be done.  We've tried a list on the fridge, index cards, but he never looks at those too.  Maybe if it were on his phone he'd actually look at it.  Maybe.

  • My house would be cleaner if DH let me throw shit out instead of all this clutter all over the place since nothing has a home.  Cleaning takes so long because it's a constant shit shuffle.  Cleaning the kitchen table right now would involve
1)finding a storage area for the two laptops and iPad
    2) finding a place for the gingerbread house, playdough and water jug.
    3) emptying out the basket that we keep the trivets and napkins in because my mother filled it with shit while trying to clean the kitchen counter.

The other issue is my inability to finish a project so even the stuff that I've sorted is taking up 100sqft of our basement waiting to be purged/consigned/donated/etc.
My DH is the same way.  We threw out a metric ton of shit when we moved 4 months ago, but we downsized from a 3600 sf, 5 bdr house to a 1100 sf 2 bdr apt so we still have tons of stuff with nowhere to put it.
