I'm not too far through it yet, but I'm reading a book that Auntie and AA0417 recommended, Making Sense of Autism Spectrum Disorder by James Coplan. It's very informative and covers a lot. It's definitely helped when I've been feeling completely lost.

And it's not quite an autism book, but I also have been skimming through Anne Ford's A Special Mother: Getting Through the Early Days of a Child's Diagnosis of Learning Disabilities and Related Disorders. It goes over a lot of basics, too.
