I don't like a lot of frosting at once so cutting the cupcake in half and flipping the top half over makes it like a cupcake Oreo with the frosting in the middle. Much better design.

Totally not about cupcakes, but @victoria+james‌ since you live in Sacramento, do you like macarons from ginger Elizabeth? Their macaron ice cream sandwiches are my favorite things in summer...when I visit family in sac, I have to get them.

I've never heard of this place! To be fair, I live in the Sacramento area but closer to Roseville, so if this is a Sacramento "thing" I obviously missed it. Now I'm curious though!

It's icing in England too. But I always think of Icing as in the kind you can roll on to birthday cakes.

For some reason I think of icing and frosting as different things. However, I'm having a hard time figuring out what it is even in my own head! yellow with chocolate frosting is the most superior of all cake/frosting combos.

Icing is a thin glaze. Thin like ice. Frosting is thick and is what goes on cakes.

UO: I think red velvet sucks.

I'm not a huge cake fan, but I do like Red Velvet and Cream Cheese.  My favourite though is Apple Pie with a spiced cream cheese icing.  I bake little apple pies (complete with crust) and then bake them into a spice (cup)cake.  Then I make a cream cheese icing with some cinnamon and nutmeg in it.  These are always a hit!

Um, kind of?  I made it up from 3 or 4 different recipes.  I have an apple pie recipe that I use for the mini pies, I just change the cook time (only 10 min or so vs the 50 min for the full pie).  Then I take a basic cupcake recipe and add the spices to my taste.  Put a tablespoon or so of the cupcake batter, add the mini pie, and cover with more batter.  Cooks for the same time as normal cupcakes.  Then I do the same with the icing.  Basic cream cheese icing recipe, add the spices/flavourings that I like.
