24 Hour Urine Collection

hey everyone! So my doc ordered me to do a 24 hour urine collection in a jug, because they need a base line since my BP is running a little high...

Well I started this AM but I ran out to do some Xmas shopping and I had to go so I went ONCE and missed it in the collection-

Now I'm debating if I should even continue collecting it since I haven't gotten it all- should I continue anyway or start over next Sunday...?

Has anyone had to do this before??

Ok- my doc office isn't open Sunday's so I think I'll just continue but obviously let them know I missed one and see if they have me re do it...

You will most likely be told you will have to redo! It's very important

You'll probably have to redo, it usually takes several tries to get EVERYThing in a jug in a 24hr period. You don't wanna mess up the test.

I've had to do this before (though not during pregnancy) and my doctor stressed the importance of collecting all urine for 24 hours.  I'd redo it, just in case.  They're looking for overall levels and missing one "go" could potentially put something in the "normal" range when in fact it isn't.  Or, maybe worse, put something in the "low" range when in fact it's in the normal range.

I used to work in a clinical lab, it was policy to have the patient re-collect if they missed a collection.
It's not fun, I'm sorry! I would call first thing in the morning and let them know you missed a collection and can/will start over. I'm surprised actually that they didn't give you explicit written instructions on the collection when they have you the collection container.

Can your collection be "re-started" from the first time you went again after shopping?

I know that's what I'm wondering can I dump it and just re start j won't be able to do it tomorrow since I'm working but friday I have off so I could def get it done there ! I know it's a test that has to be taken seriously it's just really hard to be in a comfortable spot where u can collect ur urine for a 24 hour period especially when you have to pee so much lol

I'm going to call in the AM I filled the jug from 7am-8pm even after missing the one urine! So I'm going to have them give me another jug also

Thanks everyone you guys were right! I have to re do it this upcoming Sunday - I am going to go pick up two jugs this time lol they said no one has ever filled up a jug in that office (which I find hard to believe) haha

I had to do this a few weeks ago. It was tough. I had a dream that night that I peed my pants, I was so paranoid. Lol. Good luck.
