Sick and Scared

Hi. I haven't been on this since 2004 when my daughter was born. I'm 40 and shocked. I have had nausea for a week and took a pregnancy rest and it is positive. I went to doc who did scan and said there is a sac there but nothing in it he says either I'm very early or it terminated. I'm so sick. Can barely keep anything down. Never felt so awful and my 10 year old wants to know what's wrong.
I can't say anything because I don't know where this pregnancy stands. I had blood work done Thursday and go back tomorrow to see if hormones are doubling I guess. I am stuck between fear and excitement. Fear to get excited. And I feel awful. The zodran only gives me headaches. Booooo. I'm so in need if someone to talk to.

So, I take it you weren't really planning this? Why can't you speak with your partner about this? I feel like you really could use support right now. It's so scary in general but to have to be scared alone is much worse.

Sorry that you are feeling so sick, but on a + note, your HCG is probably rising as it should. There a pg tests made by clear blue at measure # of weeks past ovulation. I watched my test go from 1-2 weeks to 3+ weeks pg over a day or so. I found that to be very reassuring that the # were headed in the right direction. 3 digital pg tests for <$20

Lurking. I just want to send you hugs. I used to be on this board. I had a blighted ovum once, my guess is that you are just too early to see anything. The sickness is a good sign. I know how very difficult the wait is, I'm sending good thoughts your way. Hang in there!

Fingers crossed for you! Sorry for the nausea - so hard to be a good mommy and try to keep things normal for your older one when you feel so bad. Sending lots of good wishes your way that your little bean is growing strong and keeping you on your toes already!

Ugh. I'm sorry.  :(  It is no fun to be sick like that.  This is our 3rd and was also a big shock and I was pretty sick too.  I never actually threw up but I was constantly on the verge. I feel your pain. I took zofran when I was pregnant with my daughter and it didn't really help me. It sort of kind of took the edge of but barely.  I hope you start to feel better.

It's hard to know what's going on via u/s without knowing exactly how far along you are but if I had to guess I would guess it was most likely just very early.  Did they schedule you for a repeat scan?  Doing your blood work to check your beta's will help.  That will at least give you a clue as to whether or not your numbers our doubling like they should. I had beta checks with all of my pregnancies except my daughter and this one. It was pretty easy to tell when miscarriage was happening.  My first miscarriage was my very first pregnancy before my son was born in 2008.  I was only about 4-5 weeks and my first beta was only 25 and my second beta was 5.  That will give you a good indication.. it just sucks waiting and waiting to hear the results.

I hope that your partner is being supportive of you and I totally get not being able to share with kids. My oldest is 6 and he is very inquisitive and it was really really hard not telling him and trying to think of something to say that wouldn't confuse him but would kind of appease him at the same time.

Good luck to you!  These boards are great and I hope you find the support you need here. :)

What were they getting back to you with? Did the schedule a follow up? Heartbeat is definitely good news!!

I'm getting injections to prevent preterm labor. You have to have them every single week from wk 16-17 thru wk 37. My clinic actually rescheduled me because a doc was on vacation!! I Was not impressed. I ended up not getting my first shot until almost 18 weeks.

Most docs don't actually prescribe prenatals anymore since they are so readily available, they just make sure you are taking them. Do you have a future appt scheduled with your dr? Since all is well I'm sure your dr is waiting for the next scheduled appt, most practices have a pretty set schedule they follow unless there is a reason to do an extra checkup. It sounds like everything looks great, congrats!!

Thanks all! I am seeing doctor on Thursday. I did not realize prenatals were now over the counter - 10 years ago I needed a script. LOL I am OLD! In any event, my dear husband found me vitamins. I am still sick - nausea is awful and now my poor daughter has stomach flu. This house needs some health! Anyway, you ladies have been a pleasure. And I look forward to talkng to you more.
