Potty Training

You know they are ready when....

They are dry for a period of time, right?

So what would you define as a long enough period of time for dryness to consider potty training?  We've been off and on working
on working on potty training for a year and a half, but only recently has DS showed any signs of dryness.  Even now if we do naked
days or underwear days we have to try to use the potty every 15-20 minutes for any chance at staying dry.

I'd love to have some success before the new baby gets here, but I just don't know if I have energy for fighting the potty battle 2-3 times
an hour.  Any chance that if we keep at it he will hold his pee longer? Or are we just stuck waiting for nature or his desire to do it to
catch up?

  • I think your LO is not ready. Parents stress themselves out by trying to potty train based on their LOs age or a personal timetable but it's much better to follow your LOs lead.

DS has been in underwear since last Friday. He can easily go 3 hours between going to the potty. Sometimes he'll pee and then pee again 20 mins later but usually he can about 90 mins before he goes again.

I would keep the potty visible and offer underwear or diaper free time but don't push it. If you are fighting him to use the potty 2 or 3 times an hour he isn't ready. If he doesn't want to then he's not ready.
