It's officially a cracked rib

I've been coughing so much from bronchitis, that I cracked a rib. The urgent care dr today prescribed me some cough syrup with codeine and a NSAID that is related to ibuprofen I guess. Both are class c, and I'm kinda hesitant to take them. Has anyone taken anything like this during previous pregnancies? Thanks

  • Well..they prescribed it and they know I'm pregnant. I'm just curious if anyone has gone through the same thing. The benefits would be I wouldn't be in excruciating pain :)

  • Yikes sorry to hear about he rib crack. If the doctor prescribed it, I would take it only when I absolutely needed it. Does Tylenol not help you at all?

  • No :( unfortunately Tylenol did nothing. I'm also going to double check with my ob on monday, but wanted to see if anyone else had experience with taking these. This blows :/

  • I am now 23 weeks and about a week and a half ago I had to go to the hospital due to kidney stones.  My doctor told me from the beginning of my pregancy any time I think I need to go to the ER (if at all possible) call their on-call number so I actually ended in labor and delivery triage with my OB.   They prescribed me Tylonel 3 (which has codeine in it).  My OB said it is safest thing after Tylonel if you are having severe pain but to only take as much as you need with any narcotic.  Not the exact situation but I hope this helps!
  • You can also talk to your pharmacist when you go to fill the medication. I work in a pharmacy and it not unheard of for a doctor to write a script for someone who shouldn't be taking it. Just the other day we had to call a doctor to change a child's medication because it interacted with a maintenance medication that the same doctor had already prescribed. If there is any concerns a good pharmacist will call and confirm the medication, dose and instructions with the doctor.
