What, if anything, did you do to prepare dc for baby #2? We have been reading books about babies, trying to get ds to be "gentle", talking about babies, etc. However, when I watch ds with my 8 week old niece, I just don't think he is getting it. What worked for you?
Re: Moms of 2
We really didn't do much at all. I can't remember why now, but I think I was too busy trying to prepare myself for baby #2. DD received several big sister books and videos after the fact. I think they were pretty helpful.
Get ready. When you bring your baby home, your toddler will have never before appeared quite so menacing. And huge. It will take a while for him to adjust to sharing you. You may have an incident or two involving scratching, biting, hitting or hair-pulling. I must confess to not handling any of it very well.....my poor toddler was only 21 months old and didn't know enough to keep her hands off the baby. My DH was seldom around to help and so the three of us had many meltdowns! But over time it will improve. Now my older daughter just loves her baby sister and she's gotten a lot more gentle. I still watch her like a hawk though!
