TTC after 35

Newbie Intro

Hello everyone! I am 37 and trying to conceive my second child with my husband. I stopped my birth control in August right after we were married and I am on #4 TTC cycle. I am using the Clearblue Easy Advance Digital OPK. I am not temping but am monitoring my CM. I went to the RE this week and we will start testing once I start my period which is scheduled for Sunday or Monday. I know I haven't been TTC very long but every month I get a negative HPT I get a little discouraged. :-h

  • Thanks ladies! I asked both my OB/GYN and RE about temping and they said not to. Especially since I work over night. My OB/GYN said it can be very stressful. I do however chart my periods, CM and OPK results on the Kindraid app. I use the Pink Pad app to record my periods as well.
  • Welcome!  As previously mentioned tracking your temp is the most helpful to confirm ovulation and ensure you are timing intercourse well.  Noting when you start your period doesn't help with identifying ovulation but your opk's can help; unfortunately opk's cannot confirm.  Regardless best wishes!
  • I may try temping next month. Thanks for the advice!
  • Welcome and good luck! Hope you aren't here long!
@mmason2014‌ my obgyn said the same about temping. He also said there are too many things that can effect it, ie room temp etc.

  • Welcome!

Like PPs, I also love temping and do not find it stressful. You can give it your best shot as long as you get 3 hours of sleep. Sometimes I even temp after 1.5 hours and I still get accurate charts. I have this weird habit of waking up 1.5 hours after going to sleep recently, and it doesn't make sense to keep temping throughout the morning.

I hope that your stay here is short. This is a great community.

  • hi there and welcome!

  • @Teenie16‌ When I asked my OB/GYN she shook her head no and said there was no need. I was skeptical bc so many women on WTE do it as well as suggest fertility friend. So when I went to the RE a week later he said the same thing. No need for temping. He did say if my periods are regular and the OPK test positive then it is most likely I am ovulating. He also said other factors such as how cool or warm I keep my room, how I sleep (clothes, covers, husband's body heat) can affect tempting as well.

But like another poster said. To each its own. Good luck everyone.

Really?  Can some of the experts weigh in on this please?
I'm not an expert, and to be honest I don't like temping and don't find it helpful (although of course if you're new to TTC you should at least do it at the beginning to get a feel for your cycle).

But yes, things like sleeping outside the covers or in an unusually warm/cold room make a big difference in my chart.  Not so big you can't still see the overall pattern, but big.

  • Welcome! I found temping after a few cycles not temping to be very helpful even though I'm a really restless wakeful sleeper.

  • @mmason2014 I am relatively new to temping and I did notice a difference if I had taken it at different times.

You said you work over night, when you are off do you still sleep all day and up all night? I used to revert back to night sleeping on my nights off and I think that would effect the temping.

I am surely no pro though! I just did it because I am nosey and wanted to see how my charts looked lol. The temping was spot on with my CM last month so it seems to be working for me!
I am not sure how to say this without getting a "solicitation" warning so I guess I just say that I am not longer active on THIS site.

  • All the other ladies gave you good advice on the charting so I will just welcome you to the group.

  • Welcome and good luck.  I temp.  I work horrible shifts.  I work 7 or 8 days strait on primary job.  On weeknights I go in at midnight and work until 8am and on weekends I work 8pm until 8am.  Then I have 7 days off from my primary job.  I then work alternating Friday, Sat, Sunday at second job from 630 am until 7 pm.  So needless to say my sleep schedule is screwy.  lol  But I can still see a temp shift when I ovulate.  I think I am less stress since I started charting because I know if I'm "Late" or not and know more about my body.  I hope your stay is short here and good luck with your RE appt.
  • Welcome, I've been trying about as long as you too so I understand that it feels like forever. I think it's cool to see how our bodies typically follow a pattern seen through temping. I sleep like crap practically every night so I don't think my chart is totally clear but it does follow a general pattern.

    Anyhow, GL.

  • @Nikolie93‌ My sleep schedule can be all over the place but my first night off I will sleep till 2 pm and then be back in bed btw 10-midnight. I then get up the next day around 6:30 am during the week and 8:30 am on the weekends.

I see everyone is encouraging temping. I may try it for a month just to see where it goes. But even after that I don't know how to read it or what to look for.
  • @waterbaby318‌ I'm sure my chart will be all over the place but I may give it a try next month.
