RNP babies unite!

Ok, fess up. Who's still got LO in the RNP for nighttime sleep? I can't be the only one!

I was going to transition to the crib over Christmas break, but he just sleeps so stinkin' WELL in that damn thing! LO is only 18 pounds, so we've got a while until he hits the 25 pound limit. Makes me wonder, WWTBLD (what would the bump ladies do)?

When will you transition baby from the RNP? Can't someone just make a giant RNP that they can sleep in until they're five??

Re: RNP babies unite!

  • Guilty!!!!!  Agreed, DD sleeps so amazing in it but unfortunately her legs are getting too long so we have begun to transition to a porta-crib in our room (not ready for her to go to her room yet). We do 8-11:30 in RnP and then move her over to the crib where she sleeps until 7. We're also still swaddling. She's not rolling yet so i'm taking advantage of all the swaddling I can!

  • Also still doing it! He's doesn't sleep well anyway, so I'm thinking he might as well be in his crib...we'll see. If he was still STN he'd be in it until it buckled under his weight (kidding). Also still swaddling.

  • Another guilty party here! DD is 5 months and 2 weeks old and she's still in it. She doesn't want to have anything to do with her crib. She's still like 16-17 pounds so we've got some time too. Once she hits the 6 month mark after the holidays, I think we're going to try the transition to the crib with some sleep training.

  • Guilty! We do not have an exit strategy at the moment. Should probably start working on one.
  • Do you guys use the rocking feature a lot?  I rock him all the time!  If he rouses at all I just rock for 30 seconds and he's back out!  It's fan-freaking-tastic!  What in the world will happen when he's in a stationary crib??  I shudder to think....

  • Surprinsingly, I haven't used the rocking feature in a while. I did a lot when she was a newborn. Maybe I should try it again for when she wakes MOTN until we transition out. What have I been thinking?!?!

And @PregsMcSnoozalot I'll tell you, it hasn't gone well when trying to put my LO in the stationary crib. It's more of that wide open feeling for my LO though as opposed to the rocking motion I think. I think she prefers to be confined but we haven't been able to keep her swaddled since she was like 2 months old.

  • I was thinking Republican National Party when I read the title.  It seemed so odd to be rallying our babies politically so young.  I think DD is an Independent Party supporter currently.
LOL! I think DD is currentlynot affiliated with any party and prefers to vote based on issues close to her heart. ;)

Our LOs are the same.  I've never been able to truly keep DS in a swaddle, but he loves (at least I think he loves) the confined feeling from the rnp.

He is in there for now.  I need to create an exit strategy, but sleep is so precious
  • Well, if it makes any of you feel any better, I've created all kinds of bad sleep associates for my LO. :( She starts the night in the RNP and then usually ends up in bed with DH and I. Sometimes she goes back down in the RNP but if she's causing a scene and I'm that desperate for sleep, she's in bed snuggled up next to me. Ugh. Lord help me when we do start this transition!

  • DD loves the vibration feature. We're using a summer infant positioner under the crib sheet so she feels a little more secure.

  • DS has been in his crib for 2 months. But during a particularly horrible night I was so so close to dragging the RNP out of the basement. DS was just too cramped. If they made a bigger version, I would have it, and force DS to sleep in it until college.
  • Don't get me started about sleep associations!  I nurse him to sleep before putting him in the RNP!!   :-S

  • We still do RNP for naps, but she's in the crib at night. I don't want to move her out for naps because she will nap for about 2x the time in the RNP. Waaaaaahhh.

  • So do I. I nurse her to sleep in my bed then move to the rnp. We will probably keep her there until at least 9 months if not a year. She sleeps so well in it which means I sleep well, and frankly it all boils down to my sleep at this point:)
  • We transitioned out of the RNP a few months ago bc L was getting so big and not sleeping that great in it. We started using the Merlin Magic Sleep Suit, and it's helped a lot!

  • @littlemissmarla  I totally forgot about the vibration feature!  The batteries went dead months ago and I just completely forgot it existed.  I don't know if it's a good idea to turn it back on....he's doing fine without it and it would just be another thing he'd miss when the day comes to move to the crib :(

  • She never slept in her RNP until about a month ago when she had a cold. She slept better with her body propped up, and I just kept her In there after the cold was done since she slept SO much longer at night. The last week she's been up ever 3 hours, though, and it's been hell so I'm thinking of transitioning her back to the PNP now. I'm not ready to move her out of our room until she wakes up less.

  • I still use it when her reflux is really bothering her or if I'm exhausted and just cannot get her back to sleep. That way I can half sleep in bed and rock her at the same time. It works out well.

  • DD still naps in the RnP sometimes during the day. At night she's been sleeping in her crib since a little over a month. She has good nights and bad nights but usually sleeps around 7 hours in a row or more. I seriously love the RnP though. It saved my life the first few months and I'm a little sad that she's getting too long for it. It's still good for now, but I'm not sure how much more time we'll have with it.

This. DS started pushing off the bottom of the RNP with his feet around 3 months and his head was hanging over the top. No more for us!

They were able to push up/out when they were strapped in?!  I sure hope my LO doesn't try that!

Yep, my DS did! He has pretty much hated everything with straps/seat belts since day 1 and strains himself very hard to escape them!

  • RNP for life! I was also thinking about attempting the transition to crib during the holiday break. Not sure how it will go because my little guy will continue to have naps in the RNP when at the sitter's. My guy is on the petite end, so I at least don't have to worry about him growing out of it anytime soon.

    I second that!
  • I tried to put her down in her PNP last night instead of the RNP. I gave in after an hour because I wanted sleep. I have no idea how I'm going to get her moved!

  • Yep.  LO does NOT sleep in the crib.  Sometimes I can get him to lay in there for a while without crying, but there is no sleeping.  I am also at a loss.  I'm serious, they need to make one for the next size up!
