Dd is almost 11 months old and as of this weekend, she FINALLY had a room/nursery. It still needs to be decorated, but it's totally set-up and functional.?
We tried something a little unusual and I'm really, really happy with how it turned out. The room is *tiny*, many of you very likely have walk-in closets bigger than this room. Anyhow, here's what we did: we put a mattress on the floor to create a bed space. There is one low, safe shelf/bookcase that holds her baby toys and one dresser that holds her clothes. ?Above the dresser we hung shelves on the wall for diapers, photos, things for display, etc. Then we installed a babygate on the door (we're probably going to end up taking the door off of the hinges and just using the babygate only.) Everything else is either in the closet or stored elsewhere (no trashcan, no diaper pail, etc)
The result is a 100% safe, babyproof room. Dh can leave her in her bed in the mornings while he showers (I'm generally still at work when he has to get ready) and gets dressed without worrying about her: if she wakes up she can simply roll from mattress to floor, get her toys, and keep herself safely entertained for a few minutes. I can leave her in there for naps without worrying about her falling off of our bed and getting hurt.
She seems to love it so far- we've gone in several times already to find that she's woken from a nap and is sitting on the floor playing with her toys quite happily.?
Now that I know it's most likely going to work for our needs I want to start thinking about getting her some cute bedding, pictures for the walls and all that fun stuff!
