Very silly question about learning to walk

I think K is ready to walk but I think he is too scared to try. The last few times he tried he fell badly and now he just won't even go on his feet unless I am holding both hands. Now ladies if I'm being ridiculous and expecting my baby to do something he is not ready for pls do wack me in the head to bring me back to my senses but bear with me while I try to explain why I am wondering.

If he is not paying attention and I leave his hand, he totally balances his body and takes a few steps. Then as soon as he realizes he is on his own he sits down ( I think out of fear of falling). Now for those who have bigs and whose LOs are walking, should I continue to get him to stand and walk on his own or just let him do whatever as he will walk eventually so nothing to worry about there developmentally?

Sorry I know this question is very silly, but I just don't know if I should be making an effort to help him overcome fear of falling or let it pass and discover on his own.

  • Oh wow...walkers already?  Mine doesn't even crawl.  DD1 didn't walk until 16months, but I never pushed it, just let her do her thing and then one day she stood up and walked.  I swear she was practicing somewhere without me.
Hallelujah, it's a miracle, I have children AND a signature!

  • i don't think its a silly question. mine isn't walking yet, and he hasn't taken any steps yet but if he stands up on his own and realize he isn't holding my hand or onto anything he freaks out and sits back down again before he falls. i think they'll figure out that its okay in due time on their own.

  • @dizzycooks we just mastered crawling. No interest whatsoever in walking. He refuses.
  • G isn't crawling but gets around the room on his belly( looks a bit like a seal!) and is crusing round the furniture! He crosses really big gaps now reaching for the next thing and yesterday we watched him cruse along the wall! He may never crawl but walking may not be far off for us I think...
  • Thank so much all! I knew I was overthinking but asking here always puts things in perspective!
