TTC After a Loss

AW: RE appt and procedures on Friday (update in OP)

UPDATE: Had my SIS and endometrial biopsy this morning and everything went well.  RE said it looked like a "textbook retroverted uterus" and he didn't see any fibroids/polyps/blockages or other issues.  The endometrium looked good from the scan but the biopsy results should be back by the end of next week.  Thanks for all the positive vibes ladies!  The anticipation was much worse than the procedures themselves.

-----------

I had my appt with the RE this morning. It was originally going to be my IVF consult but I've been having wonky cycles and mid cycle spotting and short LP since my D&C in August so I walked out with a totally different plan than what I originally anticipated. I am going in for a SIS and an endometrial biopsy on Friday to rule out any structural issues as well as any underlying infections that would otherwise be undiagnosed. The RE anticipates everything coming back normal but we are basically checking everything off the list before possibly moving onto IVF. He also said since IVF is totally OOP if we are okay doing one more cycle with just progesterone supplementation he would be on board with that too. None of this fixes an egg quality issue so it very well may not help but I'm somewhat comforted by the fact that we're trying everything and making sure everything is good with my ute before my deductible goes back up in January. For anyone who has had a SIS or an endometrial biopsy is there anything I should do to prep? I still have super Motrin from my D&C so I was planning on taking that prior to the appt on Friday morning. TIA!

  • I hope it goes well Friday! Is the SIS the saline sonogram? I know I had that and it was minimal cramping. Did you like the RE?

  • Yup, saline infusion ultrasound. Glad to know the cramping was minimal! I did like my RE. We discussed a little bit about IVF with PGD so that if this doesn't work out we will move onto that next for sure.

  • I had my SIS Monday, and no bad cramping. Maybe just a bit, but I've had AF cramps that were worse. If your doctor is okay with taking meds before, I would do that though. I'd be more concerned about the biopsy causing pain. Best of luck!

I'm also a pretty anxious person. I let that get the better of me and allow myself to build things up...... And I know people play things down to try to keep me calm......

But truth be told.... While not comfortable.....it isn't that bad and it is over so quick. I definitely made it more than it was in my head.

  • I had an EB about 10 days ago. Nobody told me to take anything before hand, so it is good that you know that. Basically, they just use the speculum, swab your cervix a few times with iodine, stick a catheter in and snip (and they had to snip twice for me!). It is not the most awful thing to have done. I felt crampy and gross for a few hours. For whatever reason, it triggered my period within 24 hours (3 days early) and my cycle was waaay heavier than normal and even after the 4 days of heavy bleeding, I spotted for 3 more days. It came on very bright like I had cut myself.

I am not sure what you have tried thus far, but from your sig, it does not sound like you have done a medicated cycle (have you?). My new RE, who did the biopsy, said that I might be releasing immature eggs...where P alone would not help you. You would need to do the whole cycle with meds to mature the egg, etc. I am no RE, but this was NOT what my first RE said--he said I  just had poor egg quality. The EB will determine how your lining is affected by the hormones. Given your history, you might want to talk with him about a full medicated cycle (sorry, not trying to play doctor here).

  • @peregrinefalconx - I asked about doing medicated cycles and he was adamant about not doing them.  If we had an underlying issue where I wasn't getting pregnant easily or if I had low AMH or AFC he would have agreed but he said that he did not like to "play around" with hormones more than necessary.  I can see his point of view.  DH and I talked and we're honestly okay with pursuing IVF if that's where we need to go (and if it was covered by insurance we would be doing it now).  But I had that thought too so thanks for putting it out there! :)
