I am on my way to court to fight a speeding ticket. Have you ever had charges dropped? Please share how.

Re: CPW: Speeding Tickets

  • I got into an accident after spinning out on the freeway during a storm the day after my 21st birthday.  My car hit the concrete barrier things and because it left a mark I felt compelled to call highway patrol to find out what I needed to do.  Well, once the officer arrived he accused me of driving erratically and made me (and my parents whom I also called) wait while he "investigated" before giving me a ticket for "failure to maintain with accident."  This would have been 4 points on my license but because I completed traffic school they charge was dropped.

  • I put SS.  I've always been able to take defensive driving to get my tickets excused.

  • @welly01 --I already took a defensive driving course. Should I bring that to the court hearing?

I'm not sure how that works.  I think you take it AFTER you get a ticket.  You can't use a past course to get out of a future ticket.  It can't hurt though.

  • I picked SS, I always call the ticket clinic and let lawyers handle all of it for me!
I am not sure how to say this without getting a "solicitation" warning so I guess I just say that I am not longer active on THIS site.

You would go to the course to get the points off for the present ticket. I have been to the traffic class 4 times. There is a 5 lifetime limit on taking it to remove points.

I wonder if this varies by state.  I was under the impression the limit was once a year.

Possibly, I did not think of that. Five is the limit in Florida.

@eurydicenymph I wonder what his reasoning was for issuing the ticket in the first place. :-/

ETA: I just re-read it and you said accident, if there was someone else involved maybe that's why he wrote the ticket!

  • I've only gotten one ticket and I went to court and got probation before judgement and only had a reduced fine. I'm not even a good BS-er I just gave a quick apology. Fx for you that the cop doesn't show because that makes it even easier!
I had a similiar experience. (Well, not the only one ticket part. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. I'm reformed, now.) My state has plead/pay options that affect your insurance. I requested a court hearing, plead guilty and apologized, and paid about half as much as I would have if I just sent in the check. Good luck.
  • Update: I completely punked out and rescheduled my hearing date. The judge seemed very nice and now I am beating myself up for not just going through with it. My next date is on July 9th, 2015 so I have some time to mentally prepare. FX that the officer doesn't show.
