TTC after 35

Update- tests results suck so I guess we are on to next steps

So... I got the numbers out of the nurse yesterday.  But this morning they called and I have to go back at 3 so doc can "go over it with me".

The first number (I think prolactin but can't remember) was normal, but FSH was 57.  It was a "mid cycle" FSH because they haven't been able to get my cycle started, but even for the FSH surge that is high (depending on what you read 30 or 40 is top of the midcycle range).  I've been getting positive OPKs the last 2 days so that means my LH has been going over 40 but no temp change so not ovulating.

Of course the kicker is today I am having a dull pain in my right "ovarian area" and really sore boobs. Mother Nature Sucks. Guess I'll find out at 3 if we are done or next steps.   Reviewing my insurance now but DH and I had decided no IUI or IVF.  I am now rethinking that decision... guess we'll have to see if he does too.

Off Mirena Nov 2013, On Nuvaring end of Jan, Back off Sept 2014.  Never ending cycle starting end of Sept...
11/14 Provera failed... cycle continues
12/14 High FSH (57 "midcycle")  OBGYN had no clue... about anything
01/15 More lab results coming back from RE. U/S showed small (1")cyst on left ovary, thin lining, and couldn't locate right ovary so  possibly straight to DE and IVF

Occassionally mess with the chart below to see "what if" and learn (not to make it pretty but because FF stays drunk with me).

I am not sure how to say this without getting a "solicitation" warning so I guess I just say that I am not longer active on THIS site.

  • That's great news about the insurance!

I hope you're not too stressed about the rest of it.  I'm not sure how much mid-cycle FSH really means.  I hope your appointment goes well today and they schedule some more standard testing (did they do your AMH?) to give you a better idea of what's going on!

With your cycle being so long how can they judge the numbers correctly?
I would look more into why your cycle has been so long. Have they checked for cysts and other things that would prevent you from ovulating.

  • !!!!!!warning...serious vent. ...and someone else's BFP and possible intentional loss

My doctor is a dumb ass. I have been in tears since I left. He basically said, sorry you are done. When I asked my options he said adoption, he said with this number your eggs are no good. Then I said so I can't carry a child? Them he came up wroth donor eggs. That's how incompetent he is. I told him it wasn't even cd 3...he said he would want them to be 5 if they were and we can't do cycle day 3 because I haven't had a period. I asked about vitex and he didn't know what that was. I asked about acupuncture and he gave me a look. He hasn't done ANYTHING but this one test. No period nothing else. Ummm...I had them on bc...so it isn't like we can't figure something out or at least do a sonogram or something. I am getting another opinion and going to an RE...

Worst part? His walls are thin and I had to listen to the lady in the next room who was pregnant at ama and want contemplating terminating the pregnancy. Why? Because get other 2 kids were clingy and she didn't know if she could take another one, she might have to give up some activities.

Best part? My sister offered to be the donor of i decided to try donor eggs. When she found out she couldn't carry another child (heart) I said I would carry one for her. ..of course I never thought it would be for me to raise and be mine. She's amazing, I didn't even have to ask. First thing out of her mouth.

Anyway. Going to find a doctor who knows how to get a woman pregnant. Should have known by the last appointment this guy was not it. Didn't look at my temps and told me to relax 2 appointmentss ago when he prescribed Provera.

DH is doing as well as he can. Brought flowers and dinner but he well.. he's a guy. Thanks so much for listening. Never thought it would be me in this situation, but it's not over until the last test is run and the RE says no...right?

Don't let him discourage you - he's an idiot!!  I had to go to another doctor to get one who actually cared about getting me pregnant and not about the numbers!

And - I worked with a lady who is 41 and got pregnant and whined the entire time because she didn't want anymore kids.  She m/c at 10 weeks and was ecstatic about it!  I was heartbroken that she was so ignorant!

sonpetitlapin she  has a condition that basically gives her congenital heart failure towards the end/ after pregnancy. They found it after her 3rd pregnancy and said that if she had another one it would probably get worse and she might not survive.  She lost her first at term (actually over 40 weeks) and they don't know why but when this condition came up after the 3rd this could have been why as well.  So all risks considered, no more pregnancies. She has gotten better (which is not common, equal chance of staying the same, getting worse, or getting better).

  • sonpetitlapin Yes it is.  I just went back to your intro to see if maybe you knew her/me IRL and see you had it too.  That's a pretty rare diagnosis supposedly.  You are the first person I've "met" that even knew what it was, much less had the diagnosis.  Her ejection fraction was really scary because they didn't find it until after the 3rd pregnancy (I have a very healthy niece and nephew they took as a repeat C a couple weeks early).  She had 3 in 4 years.... but all seems to be well now, though she's still on meds she runs and is otherwise healthy.

  • @vh2014 I was DX with it after my 3rd was born. I was 23 years old sitting in a hospital room with my 2 week old baby at home, at 10:30 pm the cardiologist working my case walks into my room and tells me I have a heart condition related to pregnancy where it is enlarged and weak, not to have anymore kids and walk out. Meanwhile my mouth is left wide open and in shock.  My EF dropped down to 35%. I recovered within 5 months.  In the almost 12 years since I was DX, more studies have been done and I fit the group of "low risk" for re occurrence.

I was curious if she had it.  I would definitely consult with a Doctor who specializes in PPCM.  You are in SW VA right?  There is one I think at John Hopkins. I read about this 12 years ago, there were a couple cases where women used a surrogate to have another baby with their eggs.  The surrogates ended up getting PPCM.  Nothing was conclusive and there is more known about it now than 12 years ago. I don't want to scare you, but want you to have all information you can have!

I know this is a few days late, but...I would have said trust your gut on this one, if you just flat out didn't need to trust your brain! Not conducting a test properly, then giving you a potential misdiagnosis based on an incorrectly administered test should actually be reported. Outrageous.

The good news: you now know this DB sucks and you can move on...

And I am really sorry you had to hear the abortion talk. That is even worse than sitting in the office with all the preggo ladies! I have also received the DE talk (with fine numbers, except my AMH, which both docs said the jury isn't out on it yet). My gut told me that first guy could not possibly be right, so I did a second opinion. Totally different than first guy!! Find new one post haste! GL>

  • peregrinefalconx Thanks.  I have my RE appointment on January 15th.  FX he has better news.  I am coming around to being ok with going to DE quickly if necessary.. but he didn't even suggest that until I pressed. I hadn't thought about reporting him... I have had fantasies of getting KTFU this cycle and sending him a nice note that says... "really? post menopause and not a chance huh? Suck it." LOL

Honestly though, glad I knew not to listen to him.  Can't imagine if I had been uneducated and just accepted it.  It really did give DH and I the push we needed to have a heart to heart about it all. So now that my cryfest is over I am counting all the good things that are coming out of this (for now.. caution: moods subject to swing on a dime).  I've been occupying my time between now and then searching for peer reviewed research on FSH.
