Mastitis/edema

Hey ladies,
Recently diagnosed with mastitis :( fortunately, I caught it really early and got my antibiotics soon enough so that my case is really mild...pain is pretty much gone and I'm not so feverish anymore. Anyway, I've noticed that the affected breast is no longer sore, but baby doesn't seem to get much milk from it even though when I pump I get a small amount. However, that breast feels harder than the other, but not really engorged - more like when I massage it to try to hand express, the whole center inside feels hard. The other breast is much softer but milk flows a lot easier from it. I think it might be edema from the mastitis...any tips to reduce swelling to release the trapped milk? TIA

Re: Mastitis/edema

  • I agree with the above comment! Try the Lansinoh heat/cold gel pads. You can microwave them and slip them into their covers and then into your bra. Saved my life during mastitis when I had a pretty bad case. However, my supply is gone since I stopped the antibiotics, so not much help there. I hope it's cleared up and everything is okay!
