Daycare gifts

What's the etiquette here?

Daycare provided us with a list of the names of children in DS's room "if you wish for your child to send a card to their friends." Wondering if I should also include a candy cane or a chocolate coin? Or some fun non-candy item? Any ideas?

Should I also give a gift to the teachers in the room? Maybe something for his key worker? I need ideas!

Re: Daycare gifts

  • No chocolate please.

We really try to limit chocolate for my daughter.  And last valentines she got a ton of chocolate that I would never even allow her to have.

Do you know if any of the kids have allergies?

I'd go with suckers, goldfish, Annie's Bunnies, stickers, or even a little activity book if they have them in the Target dollar section.

  • Great ideas, thanks!

Yeah I was worried allergies might be a problem. I don't have that info but I'm sure the nursery does.

  • Our last DC did a book exchange.  Each child brought a wrapped book.  I thought that was the best idea ever.  We always did a gift for the key teachers.  I think we did gift cards (starbucks or target) and a card with something made by E on it... like a foot print/hand print reindeer.

Mine actually has it posted on the board as you walk in.  That way anyone working in the room knows who is allergic to what.

Me too! As a spin off, where can I buy paint for something like this that is safe for M to eat?
I was just looking into this for my M and I found these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005PO4PIO/ref=gl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=2MFFGI56CFTPM&coliid=INJDDTJZIHGXZ

They get pretty mixed reviews, but I figure we can try it. We can too has a few products and so does Eco Kids. We have a local natural toy store that has them, or online there are quite a few places and amazon of course.

  • Why are your kids eating paint?

I made the colored ice cubes for V to paint with, and the first thing he did was put them in his mouth. That's why we don't do real paint yet. Last time we tried markers he put them in his mouth. He's almost 2....
  • @mapleme You can make nontoxic finger paint at home, but it doesn't make the greatest medium for keepsakes. Plus it is hard to get babies to hold their hands right for a handprint. I'd just use nontoxic washable paint (like Crayola) and do footprints. Turn the into snowmen. They're super cute.

  • On the handprint and and footprint theme...could you trace it on felt and then cut it out?  No paint, @Mapleme.
  • @stoneycakes - That's a very cute way to make footprint penguins, too!

  • We did the snowmen footprints on canvases with most of my nieces and nephews Saturday. It was crazy having that many kids running around, but there were enough adults that we managed to not have any major paint disasters.

  • I saw the cutest thing this morning you make reindeer out of the hands and a santa sleigh out of the foot. I'm totally making one with M this weekend.
