We get probably around 80. Half of the cards are to families our age- my cousin's, DH's cousins and all our friends and they ALL have kids and do the same level of carding. The other half are to the older generation, mostly their parents and our parents close friends. We tend to get a generic holiday card back from them telling us we have beautiful children We have incredibly generous older generation people close to us and they almost all send our kiddos a toy, ornament or book at the holidays.
We also have the weird category of co-workers and we have gotten a few from both of our offices so I blanketed the group and sent to both our departments so I didn't leave anyone out. And neighbors get them with homemade apple cakes because all of the little old ladies on our block bring the boys cookies. Whew, we are blessed but this is why I need to send out 100 cards!
There are a few we write personal messages to- but it is a very few. We also send out about 150 year. My H has a very large extended family and my H is the supervisor of a large department- so that eats a big chunk of our card giving out.
We sent about 80 cards and Its a pain trying to address each one by hand. I can't imagine writing a personalized message on each. I hated writing thank you notes for my baby and wedding shower and wedding because I did write a personalized message on each. It took me forever to do.
We don't get back exactly what we send out, but I figure if I don't send you one you probably won't send me one. So I'm sure as our friends start to have families of their own (we have a lot if kidless friends) my list to send will start to be more comparable to what I receive
