How you eat days/weeks before has no effect on your test. Some will even tell you what you eat right before doesn't matter. If you had GD you would most likely already be experiencing symptoms. And it's a serious condition not to be taken lightly. So the whole " eat everything now just in case I need to switch my diet in 2 weeks" is a ridiculous way of thinking. It can cause you harm and your baby harm.
GD is real, not a joke symptom caused by carb loading. I have friends that experienced a very difficult pregnancy due to GD, it's tough! Also, I used to work in controlled BG in GD patients. It gets very scary..
Pregnancy is not an excuse to go nuts. Stay healthy, for yourself and especially for your baby. Of course, treat yourself. But keep it balanced
@specialsn0wflake, do you mind sharing your glucose result after your screening? You can PM me if that is more appropriate.
Sorry you are dealing with GD
I tested last at 12 weeks since I had a history with my last and my reading was an average resting of 90. I still have to take the test again at my next appt on 1/2 and do the 3hr, but so far I'm GD free this time, and now that I know what it's like, it doesn't "feel" like I have it this time, if that makes sense.

I ask because I failed my screening at 157. I have to do the three hour challenge. I was so hungry between my OB appt and the testing that I ate like crap and I'm hoping that is why I failed. Fingers crossed that this test does not confirm GD.

It's possible to get that reading and still not have it. You could just be borderline. It's such a hassle to say the least so I really hope you don't. Fingers crossed you get good results!!!
^ I haven't tested at all yet and have had no issues it's just coming up and have been craving sweets like crazy so I've just been indulging- wasn't meaning for others to get upset or that I wanted to cause harm to the baby!

Quote fail? I suck at these. with DD, I failed my screening with a reading in that range (150's) and passed my 3hr with beautiful, fly ing colors. @superfudge00 Good luck! I hope you pass the 3hr with no problems!! I got my slip for this on Friday to do between 24-26 weeks...

@SuperFudge00 I had a glucose done at 16 weeks and failed so I had to do a 2 hour and then I passed that one. So it's definitely not out of the realm of possibility that everything will be okay. I feel like the nurse or someone told me that to pass it has to be below 140 or 145 or something like that.
I see both points. She was just joking, but it's something that should be taken seriously too.
With that said you can still have goodies just in moderation. Make sure eating lots of vegetables and healthy meals, but it's okay to have a few goodies. Good luck!
I'm testing tomorrow. It runs in my family so testing a little early. I've been feeling a little off lately so I'm hoping GD is not the cause. I guess I'll find out shortly in any case

What you eat the day of DOES make a difference, when you're not doing a fasting test (the 3 hour is fasting so you don't eat anything day of, obviously). Usually they give you instructions on what to do and they should say 'don't eat a bunch of sugar before the test'. They feed you a precise amount of sugar and see how your body responds to it, but if you've already eaten more sugar than they expect it screws up the results. You're also not supposed to do a low-carb diet in the days beforehand. (My MW always tells me to eat at least 65 g of carbs a day the 3 days beforehand (the recommended value for average diet blah blah blah is 90g and most people eat more than that, so that does NOT mean carbo-loading)
Good luck with your 3 hour!
Considering it tests the average it doesn't make a huge difference, but it does make a difference. I thought I was drinking a xxx zero water but I grabbed the regular on accident and drink the whole thing on the way to the office and I still got a good rating. I wouldn't eat a stack of pancakes right before it anything though!
With my last my 3hr was fasting, but this coming one isn't which I thought was weird. My MW told me I could still eat breakfast and recommended high protein.
@specialsn0wflake I passed with a 93 at my 12 week and fingers crossed I don't have it again this time. It's a pain and can be scary in the beginning because I knew no one that had it before. At least I'll be more knowledgeable this time around if I do have it. Good luck
Very positive thinking! If I do have it again, I'm trying to think of it that way and knowing I'll be better prepared!
Sorry to sound stupid but why did some people get tested at 12 weeks? I read it's tested between 24-28 weeks. I'm just curious, wasn't sure if people who got tested early on had it before?

I was tested at 16 weeks, and I'll test again at 28 weeks. It's probably just a policy difference at everyone's OBs. Sometimes you can catch it early and get regulated sooner, but some people don't develop it until later in their pregnancies

------ I did the one hour test at my first appointment where they drew all my other original bloodwork. I had to test early because I was a gestational diabetic with my first pregnancy.

My OB office changed policies this year. Now they test early (I think it was about 10-12 weeks) if you pass I don't think you have to do it again, but if you are borderline or fail you have to repeat the test at 26 ish weeks. At least I think that's what they said. It was months ago. I might be remembering incorrectly. No big deal if I have to do it again in a few weeks. It's really not that bad even though the large amount of sugar usually gives me a stomach ache and a headache.

My MW told me there are two tests, a shorter one that can be done earlier and can be used like a screener to see if you need the longer one, then the longer one at 24-28 weeks. After looking at the options I chose just to do the longer one in a couple weeks which I am so nervous for. I really need to do some GD research so I can fully understand what I would be dealing with if I end up having it.

In my case I tested early because I had it with my last and if I do have it, she wanted an earlier start on managing it.
Even though I passed I will have to take it again at my next appt, just in case!

A girl I work with is having her baby at the same hospital as me and through the same midwife program. She had to do the test at 12 weeks and again around 28 weeks. I only have to do it at the 28 week mark. When I asked her why they made her do it at 12 weeks, she said it's because she was overweight when she got pregnant... I have no idea if that's true though.

I was tested at my intake appointment for my first pregnancy around 7 weeks. Glucola and first trimester nausea do not mesh well. The demographic of where my hospital was located had a high percentage of women with gestational diabetes, so that's why they tested early. I had to be retested at 28 weeks. I will have the GD testing done in a few weeks this time.
