pp period?

For those of you who have had their first pp period, how many weeks pp were you and was it a normal period?

I'm almost 8 weeks pp and I thought I was starting my period a couple weeks ago but it was a false alarm. I don't remember my pp periods from my other kids.

Re: pp period?

  • Just shy of 7 weeks pp and it was pretty standard, other than not knowing it was coming. At the time I was still almost exclusively bf so I was pretty annoyed.

  • 6 weeks and normal, maybe some extra aches. I'm exclusively breastfeeding and it happened anyway...

  • 8 weeks and it lasted 2 weeks :(
  • Got it about 6.5 weeks pp, still kinda have it at 8 weeks X(
  • This content has been removed.
  • I'm almost 8w and still haven't started either. I'm EBF but I'm not on any kind of birth control. I have irregular periods anyways. I just can't believe it's been almost a year with no period.
  • 4 weeks pp and it was fairly normal, just a bit longer than usual. Even EBF I still get AF, same thing happened with DS1 and DS2. I can't wait to get my mirena back in!
  • I haven't had one yet and I am 13 weeks, EBF. I am not sure what's normal yet.

  • I got it at about 6 weeks pp and it was normal and I never really got bad cramps or anything in the last few years. I used to almost pass out even in college from them. I could definitely tell it was coming.
  • I got mine at about 5.5 weeks PP, but it was very light. I EBF, so I wasn't expecting to get it at all. It was shorter than normal, but returned again around 7 weeks PP or so. I'm not on any kind of BC yet.
  • And mine might be back. I am having some spotting today. What the cuss? I have been and birth control for 5 weeks.
  • 11 weeks/EBF and nothing. It took close to a year with my first two.

  • After DS1 was born, I didn't have my first period until he was 18mo.

Average for breastfeeding moms (who EBF at least 6mo and only do solids in addition to BM during the first year) is around 14mo, I think. ...runs to verify statistic

Why did I have to be in the 7% :-??

    --------------------
I have a real answer. ;) It's how sensitive your body is to prolactin release and other hormones associated with breastfeeding.

The frequency with which a baby nurses is what keeps fertility at bay. Nature made it that way, so that you wouldn't conceive and grow another baby while your body needs to focus energy on nourishing this one. So it's not the amount of milk removed from the breasts, but the frequency of nursing (and thus, frequency of prolactin release) that is important.

A small percentage of women are just less sensitive to those hormones. Their bodies think they're rock stars that can handle caring for and feeding a very young baby while pregnant. A friend of mine's mother discovered she was pregnant 8 weeks postpartum after delivering and EBFing her TWINS!! It just happens that way sometimes.

  • I started at 7 weeks and it was EXACTLY 11 months after my last one. My last period started Jan 6th and this one started December 6th. Not that it means anything just a huge coincidence......
  • With DS#1 I didn't get AF back until I stopped pumping at 5 months (EPing).

With DS#2 I got AF back at 8 weeks while EBFing

With DS#3 I'm still waiting.  I'm hoping that AF will stay away while I'm nursing, but I have to admit that I expect it back at any time, even though I have no signs of it.

My periods have been starting the same day every month (except when pregnant or pp) for over 11 years. It is so regular that my kids' due dates were the 24th, 25th and 22nd of the month.

Doesn't it?! My friend said that the day her mom got that BFP was the only time she had ever seen her mother cry. :-O

  • I'm EFF and I had my first one at about 3 weeks a week after my pp loss stopped, then I came on again last week (6weeks pp) and have been on heavy for 10 days.

My periods used to be pretty much like clockwork and last about 4 days and were pretty light, I'm not quite sure what's going on now but I'd like it to end soon.
  • Apparently my body felt a lot of peer pressure from this thread because my period came in like it was late to a raging party. Now I know for sure that I can drink. Whoop! Whoop!
  • Mine hasn't returned yet. Ebf and will pump at work. Taking mini pill. With my pp belly it freaks me out. Sometimes I want to poas

  • Lo arrived early on 9/4 and pp period started two days ago. I'm ebf and this is almost 4 months pp. Pretty standard but heavier.

10 weeks ebf and 3 days after I got mirena (at 8 weeks pp) some very dark bleeding started, and still hasn't stopped! It requires a liner. It's irritating, I was fooled into believing bf'ing stops af from coming :(

The Mirena is likely causing your bleeding. "Irregularly irregular bleeding" is the most common side effect. This usually gets better after the first 3 months, most women have minimal to no periods after the first year

I didn't get mine back for something like 19 months with DD.  It was ridiculously heavy at first. No sign of it yet this time although I do feel cramps on and off.

  • Mine came back 8 weeks PP with both of my kids. I was on the pill after DD and either had no period or really light spitting. I'm getting the Mirena tomorrow so I'm not sure how they will be after that.

  • I got it at around 8 weeks for my first two (FF). I'm 11 weeks and haven't had it yet this time (EBF).
