Do You Have a Toy Box?

LO has one of those material cube boxes and an old diaper box that he used to love chewing on for toy boxes. I want to get him one that makes our LR area look a bit nicer. But he's now crawling and starting to pull himself (halfway) up to things, the collapsable toy bin included. I was thinking of something like this but I'm just curious what you all do. LO plays mostly in our LR so that's where we want to keep his toys. Just want place they can be neatly (haha) stored.
Was thinking something like this? It would probably collapse if he tried to climb on it so it's not too risky.

So I'm just curious what you have or what you've done in the past for STM's.
Clear rubbermaid bins with lids?
Hard toy box?
Collapsable type bin?
Bags?

Re: Do You Have a Toy Box?

  • We have a wooden one that matches the rest of DS2 bedroom furniture, it is way to tall for him to ever get inside but we still use it b/c it is nice to pack things away at night and when others come over.

MIL and FIL just shipped this to us and DH put it together. I'm happy with it. It has safety hinges and a finger space under the lid so fingers can't get smashed. https://www.hayneedle.com/product/lipperredtoybox.cfm
Adorable! Not quite in our price range but super cute! :) Benefits of in laws right?
  • We have a leather storage ottoman in place if a coffee table. It had special hinges so the lid can't close on them. The toys inside are organized in plastic containers by type. DS has learned pretty well to put things back in the right container. We are now reorganizing it to fit DD's toys too.

  • @TyrannosaurusLex You sound just like my older sister. Bins and everything labeled/organized. We are pretty neat people so eventually I think we'll get one of those.
  • This, exactly. Same color and everything. We're klassy.

  • I totally thought this was going to be something different....

  • We have a rubbermaid tote that is just at the perfect height for DD to push around and walk with. It isn't attractive, but it is functional. (Dual-function!) DD's godfather (my brother) plans to make her a toybox, but says the weather is too cold to work on it now, so she may get it as a Christmas gift next year.

  • DD must seriously be a deprived kid. We have a basket in our living room, that's about the size of a diaper box full of toys. In her room I have one cube in the ikea bookshelf full of toys. That's it.
If we only had DD's toys, it would be so different for us! We didn't get the storage ottoman for the living room until DS was 1.5 or 2, when he had accumulated more things and they were bigger :) Right now, DD's toys are in a small decorative box that I bought at Target, sitting on a shelf in the living room :)

  • we have a target clear storage bin that i got on sale for $5 at halloween. LOs favorite thing to do is take all the toys out. then he's done playing. SO FUNNY LO!  8-}

i want to invest in a nice woodenness eventually but not until we have our own place and LO has his own room

  • The playroom has all the ikea storage furniture. We have two trofast, a kallax on its side with bins, and lots of these laundry bins. The units are also great because they provided non-floor play surfaces. We also have some 3 sprouts big bins for stuffed animals. In the living room, we have storage ottomans.

The post-Christmas deal is that if it doesn't fit in a storage unit, it's going to be stored elsewhere and rotated in.

We didn't need toy storage units until oldest was 18m.

The storage ottoman is my BFF.
Another vote for storage ottoman. We have even brought it in the RV with us. As a bonus the lid turns over and goes from a soft top to a coffee table. Genius for small spaces. too bad it's ugly. I wish I had a cuter one
