Rotateq Vaccine

Brooke's pediatrician mentioned another vaccine option that doesn't get administered with the rest of her 2 month needles. It's the rotateq vaccine and something I've never heard of before. It helps protect against rotavirus. Has anyone heard of it before or have your LO's received this vaccine?
I'm not sure if it's something I want to do - obviously I need to do some research but I thought I'd ask you ladies as well.

Re: Rotateq Vaccine

  • We got it today with her 2 months vaccinations.  To be honest, I don't know much about what they are or do because I've decided to follow the schedule so whatever they typically do I am down for. We had 3 shots and an oral vaccine.

  • Thanks ladies - @econosaurus it doesn't seem to be on our standard 2 month schedule here in Canada. So maybe thats why he pointed that one out?

  • Look at me, playing the stereotypical American. Just assuming everybody on the internet is American too. Sorry, Canadians! :)

Hahaha @Econosaurus‌ - no worries. I should have said I was from Canada. Makes a difference. :) Im still going to do some research but it's good to know that it's part of your vaccination schedule down there.
@Kristil2014‌ - this is the vaccine we were talking about the other day. You wanted me to keep you posted on what I found out.

  • It's routine in the US. I haven't worked in primary care for a few years now, but it used to be given orally. I'm assuming it still is. That might also be why it got singled out?

  • Yes, ours was oral and my LO sucked it down.  Must taste good, she will not TOUCH Zantac.  Lips.  Pursed.

  • I forget where in Canada you live, but it appears to be standard in Ontario. Our doctor mentioned an oral vaccine and I double checked on the immunization schedule and it appears there.
  • @AnnieRoo13‌ - I'm in Alberta and it's not on our schedule. I'm starting to lean towards getting it now that I hear how common place it is.
