Another breast feeding question

So I've been back to work for a few weeks now and I've already gone through almost all of my breast milk stash! I work three 12 hour shifts so the four days I'm off I'm able to EBF. When I was in the hospital they had me pump after feeding to get my supply up, but once I got home I simply fed every two hours. So my question is what do you ladies do? Are you still pumping after feeding? Are you still pumping at home or just while at work? I know I will have to supplement with formula, which is fine, but I hope she doesn't like it better than breast milk! Right now I only pump at work and I was worried about pumping more at home as I don't want to increase my supply and get too engorged at work. Thanks for any replies!

Re: Another breast feeding question

  • I was pumping after feeding in the beginning too but then I went down to only pumping after the morning feed. Now that I'm back to work I pretty much stopped and only pump at work. I want to still pump in the morning but on work days I just don't have the time and the other days I don't want to. I hate pumping. I will probably try to get back at it though. I like having a stash for just in case days.

  • I pump just before I go to bed, usually about an hour or two after LO last ate. Other than that, I just pump at work.

  • If lo was eating more than I'm pumping at work, I'd probably pump at night and on weekends to try to build up enough for the upcoming week.

  • I actually pump an extra time at work (more than she eats during the day) just to have a few ounces extra.  It doesn't amount to a full feeding, but if I do that every day, it gives me a little extra for the next week/nights out.

I pump every day after LO's first morning feed.  I pump while I'm doing my makeup/blow drying hair on days I work so it doesn't take any extra time.  I use the morning pumping to freeze or add to my pumped milk from previous day if I didn't pump enough for what LO needs the next day at daycare.

  • I always power pump in the mornings (10 min on 10 min off) since this is when we have the most milk production. That is the only time of the day I pump. Once I go back to work I plan on continuing this schedule on my days off. If I find that I'm not pumping enough on work days, then I'll add a motn pumping session as well.

  • I pump every morning. She eats off one side and I pump the other. I will continue this when I go to work. I will also pump once at work, the once I get home she will eat off one died while I pump the other. This is what I did with DS and I pumped way more than he was eating.
  • I pump twice at work during an 8 hour shift. Once I'm home and LO eats from one side, I pump the other side or else I'm too full.
  • How many oz Per bottle and how many bottles are you feeding over what time frame? Baby should only be eating 1-1.5 oz per hour you are apart. Also make sure you are doing paced bottle feeding with slow flow or premie nipples

  • Thanks for all your responses! I guess ill have to start pumping at home again. I never knew how many oz lo's are supposed to drink so thanks for that info. Sounds like she's averaging about 1.5oz per hour I'm gone. Sometimes a little more or less.
  • @rlyttle When are you going to go away?

  • @rlyttle When are you going to go away?

You know she won't come back to read this.
  • I too work 3 12hrs shifts a week. I pump every morning after my little man eats and then usually 3x while I'm at work. Usually I have to pump when I get home as well because he is almost always finishing a bottle when I walk in the door. I usually get 4-5oz total per pumping session and have yet to use any of my frozen milk. I currently am not really adding to my frozen stash only maybe once or twice a week depending on how many bottles I have in he fridge. I know it's a pain to pump at work and every morning but it's worth it for you little one. I use the medela cleaning wipes at work to clean my pump parts its definitely faster then washing them every time. Hope this helps
  • I pump after feeding at least 3 times a day.. Go back to work soon and plan to pump 3 times at work if possible
