Cloth Diapering

Altering a Pre-Fold?

So among the many baby things my mom saved for me all these years were 4 dozen prefold diapers - total bonus right?  (They are the only 34 year old baby item that was still worth using....).  The prefolds are all the same size, about 13"x17" (somewhere between the medium & large GMD prefold).  They will obviously be way too big to use right from the start.

Anyone have any tips or idea on how to either 1) fold them, so they aren't so bulky under a cover, or even 2) sew/alter them somehow into a smaller size, so I can get some use out of them sooner than later (maybe turn them into more of a fitted)?  If I were to sew/alter any of them, I would only do a few of them and hang on to the bigger ones until baby fits.

I have some newborn covers from a friend, and these prefolds are ungodly huge under the NB size.  Even a Thirsites adjustable cover on the smallest setting is pushing it as well.

All thoughts/ideas are welcome! TIA! :)
