2nd Trimester

16 weeks and negotiating a raise. When do I tell them??

I am a senior manager in a media company. I've been negotiating a raise for weeks and my boss has been dragging her feet. She recently told me she wants me to present to HER boss for my raise and that "since it won't happen until the new year, it's no rush".

However I feel like it's a rush because I think knowing I'm pregnant will affect the outcome. Should I let them know now? Or after it goes through "in the new year" when I'm probably going to be huge.

What do you think? It's getting harder to hide this baby bump.

  • Loading the player...
  • I would wait too
  • oh ps. I can still hide my baby bump in the right clothes even at 32 weeks. Its all about not wearing tight clothes.
  • Definitely wait, especially if you think it will have a negative impact if they know.
  • I'm not flaming-- I seriously don't understand how being pregnant would affect job performance & cost you a raise? It doesn't compute for me.

  • Similarly, we should get raise information at the end of this month or beginning of next, and I'm not telling. So, we're playing a bit of "am I pregnant or fat?" at the office lately.

I understand your hesitancy. My boss doesn't do anything illegal, but she does make things extra challenging for me during pregnancy/FMLA leave/in my return. So, it's not much of a stretch to imagine that she would/could make my raise smaller than it would otherwise be.

    Good luck.
