Is in and it is NOT what I was hoping for or expecting. 13 retrieved. 11 mature and FOUR fertilized...... 4. a freaking 36% fert rate.

This news earned me a follow up call from my doctor. Neither he, nor the embryologist can explain the poor fert rate. Eggs looked good, sperm looked good. No explanation. (Yeah right - I don't believe this for one second)....

He also said to prepare for a 3 day transfer since the clinics criteria is that you need at least three good looking embryos on day 3 to make it to day 5. Of course you do..... and of course I pretty much don't have a shot in he! at this. 

Last time we had an 80% fert rate, this time a 36%...... WITH BETTER NUMBERS. Oh yeah, because he also told me that my husband motility post wash was 70%. Um - he's never had anything higher than 20%. I honestly feel like they mixed up the sperm. And let's be real, it's hard for me to have faith in my clinic after the colossal fuck up with my frosties. 

I seriously want to quit. Fert rate is the one thing I was not worried about. I feel like I can NOT win and like having a second child is forcing a square into a circle....Sorry to be so debbie downer, I am just feeling totally caught off guard and totally devestated.

I am so sorry, hon. I know it's hard to be positive right now, but I am holding onto hope for those four embies to grow strong. Thinking of you and sending big hugs.

Are you still going to transfer one? Or if you do a day 3 would you do two?

I know you don't want to hear any cliches about how it only takes one, because I know you already know that.  I know this is terribly frustrating and not what you wanted to hear.  But I am praying super hard for you, and for a fighter among those little embies.  Hang in there JB.

Huge hugs. Fwiw, I was told at my prior clinic that you needed at least 4 suspected mature egg containing follies to go through with ER because fert rates average 25% so I think 36% is pretty average. Perhaps it isn't at your clinic though if the docs were surprised. I wouldn't give up yet though...those 4 embies still deserve a chance! Big hugs though, this has been a real rollercoaster for you.

@kaf7‌ - the nurse told me standard fert rate is 50%, and I am nor that far off, which is true but I shake my head at the serious decrease in two years. @TJ1979‌ - I actually don't hate that saying. I love it because it couldn't be more true. I didn't go into this cycle looking to stockpile frosties again, I went into it to get a sibling, knowing I am done for sure at 2.....if I wound up with one blast to transfer and nothing else left, I would be fine with that. My biggest concerns right now are; that nothing will make it to Saturday or having at last three so we can try and make it to blast - two extremes, I know. @Mrs.AmyDylan - that is my biggest issue right now. I am not opposed to a three day transfer. I believe I can have success. I am however TERRIFIED of twins. I know my limitations and I can not handle that. My dr is not working this weekend but offered to do a phone consult when I show up for transfer if I want. That's a very nice offer but I know ultimately the decision has to come down to the grade

Ladies a thank you to each and every one of you for your support. I am truly grateful that I have a place to turn.

My question to you guys; does anyone know anything about a poor fert rate? I'm really baffled. My husbands numbers have never been higher than 11 million- 20% motility......this time they were 5 million but 72% motility. Is it poor egg quality? I don't know much about that but have a hard time believing it since I only had 2 non mature eggs. My AMH was 2.75 when tests in August, I believe that is well within the normal range and I had 14 antricle follies, fairly in line with what was retrieved. Is there any chance this is a lab issue? And they didn't use the best sperm? Or are we really just having a stroke of bad luck and I'm over reacting? And can someone please calm my fears that they will all arrest before Saturday

And one more thing to add - I posted last week about low e2 in the beginning of the cycle - once they increased my meds it almost exactly doubled every 48 hours....but on trigger day it was only 1650.... This seems low to me and I can't help but wonder if it effected something?

I'm sorry it wasn't better news that you were hoping for. You've been through a lot and you have every right to be frustrated. Everything crossed that you will get your take home baby #2!

Thanks ladies. I allowed myself yesterday and last night to wallow - but promised myself I would snap out of it today. At this point there is nothing I can do..... I"m just praying that these four continue to grow until tomorrow.....And we will take it from there. I just feel like I got hit with a bombshell yesterday, but such is life.

I'm so sorry that you're going through more crap with them and that you didn't get better news. I hope tomorrow brings good news about your four embryos though. Thinking of you!! Keep us updated.

Hmm, ok. That def seems lower to me then too...I had 45 mature & 42 fertilized with ICSI.. I thought ICSI had higher fert rates.

I know - last time I had 13 our of 16 mature fertilize..... with lower numbers. This makes no sense to me, I sure as hell hope the lab actually did the ICSI.

@racheyt - I feel like the nurse told me they did yesterday, but I was so upset I am not positive.... And my Dr. actually called me back yesterday afternoon to discuss things further after he talked to the embryologist - so I feel like he would've mentioned it as well.

That sucks, and I wold feel disheartened as well as angry were I in your shoes, considering what happened to your frosties.

My thought is this- they can't make you do a day 3 transfer if you don't want to. I found that out the hard way. At my IVF, I had 6/9 mature fertilize with icsi, and they asked me to come for a day 3 transfer which had me on the ledge.

Once I was on the table bladder full, the dr said that I could wait until day 5 if I wanted to. I was like wtf- I'm here, so let's do this now, but just 1. Ok? So we transferred one. That one is DS. Surprisingly enough, 3 of the rest of the group made it to blast and were frozen on day 5 and 6.

Moral of the story? You have still very good chances with 4, and you can hold out till day 5 if you want to. It is your choice.

@amandaleigh1‌ - I have thought about that as well. I haven't let myself think about it too much because I want to see what tomorrow brings first - but it is something I would push for If I felt the cards were right....thanks for your story though, it gives me hope.
