Trying to Get Pregnant

Another language/dialect question...

Where you are from, what do you all the thing you put groceries in while shopping at the grocery store???

Here in Louisiana, we call it a buggy. A friend of mine from Michigan calls it a cart. She makes fun of me all the time when I say "put it in the buggy." LOL.

Buggy. By far, that's what I grew up hearing. I do occasionally use cart.

ETA: From MS, live in TX. I think I use 'cart' when referring to one to people other than H because cart is more common here.

I also tend to say "down cellar" when I'm talking about the basement.

The liquor store is a "package store" or "packie" and the fact that I can't buy liquor or alcohol at the grocery store is fucking stupid.

Idea is pronounced "idear" by most people here and it makes me 100% stabby.
Why isn't the liquor store just called the liquor store?

  • Buggy. Although I'll admit the first time I heard someone call it that I literally laughed in their face.

Grew up in the Midwest, called it a cart. Moved to Alabama, slowly transitioned into calling it a buggy.

I'm back up in the Midwest and I'd say I call it a buggy 9 out of 10 times.

@kamarks08 Kmart, this may stall our friendship, since I think I would laugh every time someone called it a buggy. The image of an actual buggy in the grocery store or Target is hilarious.

  • Haha I just moved down to Louisiana (originally from Cali), and I still find it odd that people down here say "buggy" instead of plain ole "cart". I sure am a fan of southern accents though!
  • I'm in SC and have always called it a buggy. Must be a southern THANG :P
  • I'm from Alberta, Canada and I call it a buggy! MH is from ontario though and calls it a cart and laughs every time I say buggy. Another difference we have is I call a remote a clicker. Which he hates.
I used babysit a couple little boys from New England that called the remote a clicker. I thought it was cute but I've always called it the remote.

Yup...clicker. I used to call it that all the time. Now it's usually the remote. Although I will refer to the remote as "the buttons" quite often.

  • Buggy here (WV). Though I've also heard people here call it a cart.
  • In Jersey, we call it a cart or shopping cart. When I was stationed in GA I went grocery shopping with a country bumpkin and she told me to grab a buggy and I was so confused. I was like "what in the Eff is that???" Hahaha living there I started calling it a buggy, but when I moved to AZ they call them baskets. even more mind boggling then buggy, because I'm sorry this is not a effing basket a basket is something you bring on a picnic or hunt for Easter eggs with.
  • I'm in Michigan, we call it a cart.  DH lived in Alabama for a long time, they call it a buggy too.

@hobbesgal‌ I totally agree about not being able to buy liqour in a grocery store!!! It's fucking stupid and not to mention a pain in the ass! So you mean to tell me now I have to stop at like 2 places on the way home instead of one for groceries and liqour it's some bullshit.

And when you call it the "down cellar" is this like "shade tree" and "ink pen"??? I've always been confused of these sayings because a pen has ink why are you calling it an ink pen?? People who say these things don't say "led pencil" they just say pencil. WHY?!?? Hahahaha

@MagicInk‌ I lived in Phoenix for about 4 years they called it a basket there!!! Craziness!!!
  • @LindsRockies‌ honestly I have no idea!!! But I heard it all the time in Phoenix. Odd thing though was everyone I knew or even came in contact with were from other states I met 3 people my who 4 years that were actually born there so maybe that's why??? No idea..
