Trying to Get Pregnant

Former Nuva Ring Users

Lurker coming out with a question - hope you don't mind!

I have been experiencing hair loss post Nuva Ring (this is my 2nd cycle off) and am wondering if other people have experienced this side effect, how long did it last? Did you do anything to help it move along faster? Any tips and tricks would be helpful. I went right on to BC at around 4 weeks PP with my DS and never had PP hair loss so am a little freaked out by it.

  • I was on NuvaRing but didn't have hair loss. What did your doctor say?

  • It came up in the possible side effects when I searched so I didn't ask the Dr yet, will actually be there next week. It isn't a very common one from what I have read - I just have fine hair and was hoping for some wisdom from been there done that ladies. Thanks for the response.

  • I stopped using it in March and definitely noticed some hair loss.  I can't say when exactly it ended, but I haven't experienced it for a while, so I'd say less than 6 months.

I was seriously freaked at first though because I felt like I was going bald! I have waist length hair and I was having to clean out my brush every night.   At some point it slowed down, so I didn't worry too much and then it stopped completely, now you'd never know.
  • How bad is your hair loss? Now that you mention it I've been shedding much more excessively both since I started on the ring after switched from pills, and still now that I'm off it. But I wouldn't say it hair loss per say, just heavy shedding. I've never heard of it before, but sometimes different forms of BC have some weird side effects. Sorry you're dealing with this.

Oh lord. I just went off Nuva this month after 8+ years. I loved my Nuva, but I am now horrified about what could happen. Thanks, OP! ;)

That said, I'm not sure that it would be isolated to Nuva. Any long-term hormonal medication is going to change your body chemistry, and going off of it is going to change it again.

I would liken it to PP hair loss from what my girlfriends have said - I would say probably heavy shedding.

I would say you are right - it's probably not isolated to Nuva at all. I only searched for post Nuva. I hope you don't get any negative side affects - from what I read it's isn't a very common one!
