i completely agree. opening the stocking was my favorite part growing up! --------- Growing up some things were wrapped and others weren't. I think the boring stuff like gum, socks, were unwrapped, but a deck of cards, our favourite chocolates, or a 'mind teaser' puzzle got wrapped.
The same happens here. Some stocking items are wrapped, others not.
I do not miss the first few weeks after LO was born. Saw my new nephew and sister in love struggling with BF at the hospital and it just took me back to all the emotions(hormones) and stress. I wanted to just cry watching it.
^ I barely remember those first few weeks. There's literally like a black hole in my memory and this makes me very sad. I was exhausted and looking back, I think I had some ppd. I loved LO, but it took until just a couple months ago for me to really feel attached to LO and make the connection that he was the baby I carried. Before that, it didn't feel real, and I couldn't connect real life LO to the baby I was pregnant with. It was a tough first few months. I wish I could go back tell myself to pay more attention and it gets better! Thank goodness for the hundreds of pictures I took!
I hate wrapping gifts. I love those shirt boxes that are printed on the outside. Toss in the gift and some tissue paper if I'm feeling fancy, tape it shut, and done!

This was exactly me too, I refused to admit until recently I had a bit of ppd, which was strange because although I had it, I was also ecstatic to have a baby, I had no idea why I had so many conflicting emotions, I thought I wasn't normal. Ppd is terrible, I hope you feel better now?
Between losing my father-in-law 5 weeks before having our baby, actually having our baby, and the hormones regulating, the memories early on are quite fuzzy as well. I have tidbits of memory flashes. I look at pictures and it helps to remember. Is it really PPD that causes it or could it just be a trifecta of emotional factors?
I feel the officers were most likely in the wrong in Ferguson and Staten Island - while both individuals may have been doing something against the law, it was not something worthy of death. IMO, the officers should have been indicted and faced a full trial.
I also understand why people want to address their grievances via protest. However, around here (and I do not live in MO or NY), the protests seem to be designed to be as disruptive as possible to innocent bystanders. One recent protest completely blocked rush hour traffic for who-knows-how-many people. Then protesters disrupted an official tree lighting ceremony -- booing, shouting, and chanting at all the performers (including a children's choir). They planned to disrupt another Christmas event today, but that event has just been cancelled due to the planned protests.
I am thankful the protests have been peaceful (despite some protesters taunting the local police), but I feel like this isn't really the way to get their message across. The people attending these events (and particularly the children) had nothing to do with these situations. I feel like disrupting innocent people's lives is more likely to stir up negative sentiment than change anyone's point of view.
I also am afraid that one of these protests will turn violent (or one of the officers being taunted will snap) and just make the whole situation that much worse.
I have totally lost the months I was pregnant. talking to the dr yesterday I told him I had a bunch of blood test run last summer, well it was the summer before last right before I got KU. don't know why but those months are gone!
I hate wrapping gifts. I love those shirt boxes that are printed on the outside. Toss in the gift and some tissue paper if I'm feeling fancy, tape it shut, and done!
My MIL saves the same boxes year after year after year after year. All the gifts for adults are in the same size boxes. And she goes tape crazy on the box. THEN she wraps the box and goes crazy with the tape again. It took me over 10 minutes to get into one of my packages last year. I hope she just got me a gift card this year like she said she would. (Sigh)
@g33kyg1rly I not only agree that the POs were in the wrong and should have been indicted, I am all on board with protestors disrupting life. The general population would be ignoring the protests if they didn't. People getting murdered > tree lightings.
I don't see anything wrong with having a drink during the day, as long as you do it responsibly, of course.

My UO? I love Christmas music! Love, love, love. I've been listening whenever I can since before thanksgiving and idgaf...it lifts my spirits and "that makes everything bright" \:D/
I am ok with adults gifts just being in shirt boxed BUT children should have gifts In wrapping paper
I can agree with that. It's so much fun to watch them tear open the paper! FFThC, I also wrap my dog's presents for the same reason. FFThC part two, I buy my dog Christmas presents.
As far as if the officer should have been charged or not. I believe unless you are in the courtroom listening to all the evidence and not what the media is portraying it is hard to make a complete judgement call. I trust those that were part of the grand jury that heard what we couldn't made the appropriate decision.
100% this. That's why our legal system was created the way it was. The evidence is presented, and a select few get to make that decision.
Just because you don't agree with what happened doesn't mean that it's okay to burn buildings down.
Peaceful protests go right on doing what you're doing.
Burning someone's business down, and damaging private property? You're just hurting the community even more.
I think it is a bad idea to have a pitbull if you have young children. I know there are many many many pits that live their whole lives never hurting a soul, but the bottom line is, ALL animals can attack, and most other dogs are not capable of doing the damage that a pit is. A bite from a little dog is completely different from a mauling from a dog like a pit ( I would probably include a rotweiler too).
People say, it's not the dog it's the owner...ok, but most people probably got their pit from a rescue. You may treat him or her wonderfully, but you don't know what happened earlier in its life that could make him dangerous? You have no clue what might trigger a dog to attack, so when and if they do, I don't think dogs that are capable of serious injury or death should be around kids.

Usually I get her a toy or two, a rawhide candy cane, and some treats. This year she might get a new collar too because the old is looking kind of ragged.

Right because systemic racism is TOTALLY NOT A THING.
What makes me ragey about this is that the violent protests have been only a small part of the whole (most have been very peaceful) yet people latch on to those and use them to discredit the whole movement.
And oh, btw, people were fucking MURDERED. I am not judging a little rage going on in their communities.
@g33kyg1rly I not only agree that the POs were in the wrong and should have been indicted, I am all on board with protestors disrupting life. The general population would be ignoring the protests if they didn't. People getting murdered > tree lightings.
Exactly this. The point of a protest is to bring attention to the matter you are protesting. If the protest was on the sidelines and no one noticed, it defeats the purpose entirely.

The legal system is flawed. The grand jury is presented with evidence from the very same prosecutor who has a vested interest in making sure he/she has the police department on their side.
An independent prosecutor should have been brought on board in both Ferguson and Staten Island. Justice was not served in either case.
As for the few incidents of violence in these protests, while I don't condone it, I can understand it.
I believe most cops are good people, too. This is not mutually exclusive with the beliefs that a.) systemic racism exists and b.) some cops are not good people.
And if even a good cop makes a decision so bad it kills someone, they should still be indicted. Just like if I do something so stupid it kills someone I should also be indicted.
UO Friday (totally related to my fffc!) - I hate doing thank you cards. yes, I do them, and it's proper etiquette, but I wish it wasn't. plus it feels wasteful...like hey, thanks for the $50. here's a card I spent $5 of that on just to say 'thanks' again. sorry to waste that money on this paper thing.
the people giving gifts know us (or duh, they wouldn't be there!). they know we are grateful.
@laura8838 the same thing happened to me and it means me sad I don't remember my baby boy that size. I agree, I think exhaustion plays a huge role in it, as well as hormones, and just not having a clue what it would actually be like. At least that's how it was for me anyway.
@HKline922 I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your father in law. I'm sure that added to the stress of the end of your pregnancy/new baby. I'm not sure if ppd causes memory loss or what. I attribute the memory that more to being exhausted and hormonal, though those things probably didn't help with the ppd either.
@HighPeak I am doing much better now thank you for asking. It was all just so surreal at first and LO looked exactly like his daddy, so I couldn't see any of myself in there. I just couldn't connect the pregnancy baby to the real life one. Plus, my labor and delivery was horrible and not at all the loving and supportive atmosphere you hope for after you just have a baby. But the whole time the weird sadness was going on, it was like the back of mind knew I loved him more than anything and was telling me just to hold on, and I would figure that out. And now I can wholeheartedly say he's the light of my life and I can't imagine life without him. I hope things got better for you too.

Whoa! Are you buying a hallmark card for someone every time you get a gift?? Just get a box of notecards....heck of a lot cheaper.
UO: I don't write thank you notes on a card that says "Thank you" on it. I figure I'm writing thanks on the inside. I don't need the card to say thanks for me. I just use blank (inside) notecards instead.
^^ I have a hard time imagining anyone having a problem with that at all ever. Is that really a UO??
I use neutral stationary for all my notes (birthday, thanks, condolences, etc). Fussing over whether the card is printed with "thank you" or not is beyond ridiculous.

I don't think it should be wrapped. If it's a big enough deal to be wrapped it doesn't count as a stocking stuffer and put it under the dang tree.

Before having Sage, I heard parents say often, "the first 3 months are the hardest." BULLSHIT. Umm, so far, the first 9 months are the hardest.

I don't mind driving to work in the dark at 4 or 5 am.
I'd rather do that than drive home at 7 or 8 pm in the dark.
