never say never...

I'm eating my words. I've always been a staunch "I'll just go straight to a twin" no toddler bed supporter.

And i totally would. But the nursery just isn't big enough for a twin and the crib — I tried — and I need the crib for Amelia. DH has firmly resisted getting a second crib now that A is ready for one. He wants to put E in a regular bed. So we're looking for a toddler bed.

Any suggestions on how to prepare E for moving into the new bed? Or how to keep him in it? Because I foresee both being issues.

  • DD goes to sleep just fine. However staying IN the bed in the middle of the night is a challenge. We just switched a couple of weeks ago, so I'm hoping it will get better

  • We are planning to switch DS2 over the holidays while we're home, I hope it goes smoothly!  DS1 was a breeze, but he was a little older.  Fingers crossed!!

  • I was SHOCKED at how well my son transitioned to his toddler bed.  I was on team keep-him-in-his-crib-until-college, but we decided to transition him due to some sleeping issues thinking that getting him out of his crib would help.  That's another story though.  Bottom line, I think your toddler will surprise you.  It took a few nights for him to get used to it, but he's just done really well.  He has fallen out of it a few times even with the rail, so I am glad we didn't go straight to a twin since the toddler beds are only a few inches off the ground.

  • Thanks all! We do have an IKEA, actually I'm smack in between the one in Detroit and Chicago, equal distance to both. I'm not ready to take E out of the crib. He sleeps so well, but A and I are waking each other. She's not sleeping well and neither am I. I'm kind of surprised need cause I coslept and/or bed shared with my other two until they were almost a year.

I transitioned my older two at two. I bought this little Walmart bed like this one

They both did pretty well. My third stayed in a crib till 3 and that was awesome so I vote IKEA crib as well if you can swing it. You will need to buy a new crib mattress anyhow for the toddler bed, might as well be for a crib that transitions to a toddler bed. GL!

See, we HAVE the crib that transitions. But we need it again. Dang it.

  • We ate using the PNP currently, but she just isn't sleeping well. I think it's because the mattress is that folding one so I can't prop her head end up and her reflux is bad.

  • So you are currently using the PNP - is there anyway you could buy one of those wedges made for babies with reflux issues and put it under the PNP mattress?  I'm trying to think how those worked, I actually don't own one :/
