Is it still good?

I left a bottle of breastmilk out on our kitchen counter for 3 hours - it was some of what I pumped last night so it had been refrigerated. Is it ok to freeze it or should I dump it since it was sitting out? Thanks in advance!!!

Re: Is it still good?

  • you can keep freshly-pumped milk at room temperature safely for 3-4 hours, so since the milk was already cold, i'm sure it's perfectly fine. give it a sniff- does it smell okay? if it smells sour, toss it.

  • Thanks - that makes sense! And nice to hear from a fellow A12 mom! :)

Actually that's 6 hours if I'm not mistaken... The rule of sixes: 6 hours at room temp, 6 days in fridge, 6 months in freezer...
  • i was just erring on the side of conservative- the range is 4-8 hours at room temp, with the ideal being 3-4 hours. (source)
