@tyrannosaurusjess - I am so mad for you.  I'd be livid if a babysitter forced me to cancel a trip!  That's ridiculous.  Did she have a good reason?

ETA: I see you answered this already.  That's just sucky.  Sorry.

Well the thing is, the food and wine pairing dinner, was her idea.

I sent around the menu with the pricing per person, and she said "That's not bad at all."

And it was her idea to invite spouses.  Otherwise the whole thing would be covered.
So, they will pay OOP$25? Your company would cover her meal, right?

Yep, the university would cover the employee meals.

  • So, my meeting went well.  And despite having a million things to do, I have no desire to do them.  My boss is leaving at 2 today and my bosses boss already left (for an offsite thing).  I'm now thinking I will leave early to get Aedan a haircut.  He's looking ridiculous these days!

Is there somewhere I can look up good carseats for a certain car? It looks like it has more room in the backseat than the jeep. latch on either side. Center does not look condusive for a car seat.
Are you on CSFTL facebook group? People post their car all the time and ask for good car seat recs. What do you need? A convertible for the little guy? Or a ff seat for Grace? With #2 coming, I wouldn't worry about a center seat anyways.

Our rep from a cable company that we purchased quite a bit of TV advertising through recently just showed up at the office with a giant gift basket of snacks and a bottle of wine. The snacks are already being devoured by everyone in our department, but what would you do with the wine? Give it to my colleague who worked with me on the project the advertising is for? See if the department wants to raffle it at our holiday luncheon? Take the bottle and run home?
Our vendors always send stuff at Christmas to the executives and they do email raffles every Friday for the stuff that came in that week.

I will eventually need a convertible for Jed. I have a graco snugride 35 for him for now. And G has a Safety first Air 70. it does look like it may be a little hard to get the seats tight just because there is kind of a dip in the seat. The center is raised a bit. But I don't need to put one in the center do i?
  • Embarrassing moment of the day:

Our office's Gmail calendars have some sort of ghost in them (literally, that's what the IT guy called it, and said he has to submit the issue directly to Google.)

Well, somehow the gmail calendar default on my phone changed from my personal (non work) calendar, to one of our male Director's calendars.

I went through the other day and put all of my upcoming appointments in, including one for this Friday titled "OB/GYN Nexplanon Removal".

He awkwardly came out to me and was like "umm..."

Looks like they had success with the seat belt. I hate using that thing but I don't take the car seat out hardly ever. So if latch is hard I can just use the car seat.

I do want that click tight though!

You get used to the seat belt pretty fast. We switched James to seat belt because he is close to the latch limit and it was easy and feels just as secure to me (Radian r120).

I did it once in my sister's car since she didn't have latch. I guess I need to practice it a bit. Just took me forever to try and get it. Not that latch is all that easy either.

Hey Beebop&Buddy, how long does it take to get Jamberry after I order? I haven't placed an order yet but still thinking about getting some for my nieces and teachers.

Today is actually the last day to place an order to guarantee delivery by Christmas.
I just tried to place an order, at the end after I entered my cc info, the screen said "An application error has occurred. Our Technical team has been notified". Do I need to enter it again? I did take a pretty big pause (10 min?) in entering my cc info.
ETA: Grr, I think it is my card. I just got a new card and activated it this morning and now it is being declined everywhere. So annoying.
ETA2: extra Grr, when I called and she looked through the notes that card was compromised (even though it hadn't been used yet) so they sent me out a new one that I now need to find in our huge mail stack. I'm about to say eff my points and use my debit.

Yuck, I hate when stuff that happens. It always seems to be at a time that I need my card the most like a holiday or birthday. If I can help you with your order, just let me know.
Got my order in. I used your Dec party, hope that is ok!

That's crazy. I don't buy white wine, but when it comes to free wine, I open my mind to other possibilities. Oh well, more wine for you!

I want alcohol. I want a cold glass of white. I may treat myself to a small amount on Christmas and New years.

I had a dream that my 17yo niece was married, pregnant and due in May. Talk about a nightmare!

  • Here is a question for you all... Do you guys ever put a letter in the mailbox and leave money, like, if you didn't have a stamp? I do this all the time and H thinks I'm nuts. He says I am definitely the only person in the whole world that does this, but isn't this a thing?
  • Can I just say that requiring 3-year-olds to wear white shirts as part of a uniform is dumb? Maya has been in school 3 months and I'm already replacing all of her school shirts because of stains. Grrrr.

Old school etiquette rule that I find myself following because I work with both PhDs and non PhD instructors--it is NEVER wrong to say Mr. or Ms.  Even for Senators, doctors, etc.  So if you think you might fuck up, just fall back on Mr.  If you can pull out Senator and Representative, go for it, but don't beat yourself up if you use Mr. on either of them.
Wrong. Doctors get pissed as all get out if you call them Mr instead of Dr. I have also had this happen with a judge- he was pretty pissed that I called him Mr. I was always told to address them by their title, and let them decide if they wanted me to address them differently."Nice to meet you Senator Bigbucks." "Nice to meet you IV, you can call me Bob."
That reminds me of the clip of the Senator yelling at a General for calling her Ms. instead of Senator, but she calls him Mr... I always err on the side of more formal because you'll never offend someone by using their title, and like IV said, they can always tell you that something less formal is fine.
  • We just had to decide employee Christmas bonuses.

What was proposed was that an engineer who has been here 90 days and hasn't worked overtime once should get the same bonus as our kickass employees of 8 years who worked countless weekends, all-nighters, and did a ton of travel.

    Yah, no.

  • Independent rep calls me 5-10 times a day.  I sent him an email last night explaining we can schedule a call for Friday.

He calls anyway at 10am.  10:30.  Again at 11am, is told I'm in a meeting, I ask if it is urgent since he keeps calling.  It's not.   Receptionist explains we have a meeting with congressmen after and I will have to call after.  He calls at noon.

I want to ask him what he was having difficulty understanding.  Surely it's not acceptable to call anyone like this.  Instead I'll bite my tongue and close the relationship gracefully (something I didn't really have the balls to do, but I can' t live like this!!!).  He just fucked himself so hard, I hope it was worth it.

Is this a Christmas gift or a performance bonus? If the latter, you should really get a set bonus structure in place so you don't have to do it every year and you don't need to worry about people mumbling about the subjective nature of the amounts (performance based can still be subjective but set guidelines help). Without anything exceptional going on, I would prorate his bonus. DH's company is small and they do two end of year bonuses. One is a company profit sharing bonus and everyone in the entire company gets an equal amount and the other is that you are eligible for up to 10% of your salary for your performance based bonus. This is where they always prorate to what you have made for the year.

There are companies that still give Christmas bonuses? I'm envisioning Chevy Chase in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation when he gets the jelly of the month club certificate.
We do $1k minimum, up to $3k this year because things are tight.

I think a smaller Christmas bonus and then some incremental treats and merit-based rewards throughout the year are far more appreciated, with a much greater positive effect on morale.  And I have learned that if you have a bad year and cannot give as much for Christmas bonuses, people get really disgruntled.  There's no such thing as giving extra one year and back to normal the next; employees view the extra as the new normal and damn if you don't give it to them the next year.

If you give $1k bonus and spread the other $2k out as merit-based rewards throughout the year, it is easier to cut back in a bad year without employees getting disgruntled.  Anyway, old school cronies just don't see it.  I've heard way too many whiny complaints over a $3k bonus "being $200 less than last year" - these bonuses become expected, or worse..... counted on (by those with budgeting/financial problems).  Nobody looks at them as a gift from us, some don't even say thank you.  The thousands of dollars in bonuses is literally money out of my pocket, so a thank you would be really fucking nice.

I don't think there is anything wrong with using just the title during a quick handshake. You're fine, don't think twice about it.
Thank god.  I am really out of my league with these city lawyers and politicians.  I don't enjoy any of this at all, and I am sick of feeling so insecure at these meetings.

The good news is we should be on the docket this upcoming session.  The bad news is I will need to testify in January and February.  LOL WHUT.  I was useless from 36 weeks on with my first pregnancy.  This is a nightmare.  I can give presentations and classes, but put me at a podium and I sweat and shake.  :(  I have nobody to send in my place though, because they will fuck it up worse than me.
